Two days after Segway tour, Ovechkin leaves Caps practice

Oct 15, 2013, 2:43 PM EDT

Washington captain Alex Ovechkin left Tuesday’s practice early because he “wasn’t feeling 100 percent,” head coach Adam Oates told CSN Washington.

While Ovechkin’s health isn’t believed to be a major concern — “A little tired from last night [4-2 win over Edmonton]; he said, ‘Let me get outta here,’ and I said, ‘Sure,'” Oates explained — it has to be noted this incident came roughly 48 hours after Ovechkin participated in a D.C.-area Segway tour.

From the Washington Post:

During the Caps Casino Night Fundraiser last year, one of the experiences auctioned off was a Segway tour around D.C. accompanied by Caps players.

On Sunday, Ovechkin, Mikhail Grabovski, Michal Neuvirth, and Marcus Johansson made good on the auction item, jumping on Segways and riding around town seeing the sights with the winning bidder.

Last year, another fan won a cooking class with Roman Hamrlik at the same auction.

Here’s Ovi in action. Note that, of the four Washington players participating, he appears to be the only one without his chinstrap safely fastened:

Compare that with Marcus Johansson, who’s not only strapped in snugly — he also appears to be wearing an additional safety device underneath his helmet.

(Editor’s note: Might just be a baseball hat.)

        How about a caption.
“Sure makes it so much easier to play defense while gliding”!

‘Let me get outta here’ ? …

and of all people, that’s coming from your captain ? … oh man, is this now ever going from bad to worse eh ? … anyway, you ‘never kick ’em when they’re down’ as the old saying goes and therefore I will now lay off with the OVI teasing … hang in there Caps friends and stay true … sooner or later the darkness will pass and a bright new day will emerge for you, God willing …

idk if I could justify classifying the league’s points leader as “down” right now.

Ovi has 6 goals in 6 games, how many does your teams best player have? If the guy isn’t feeling great then let him get off early. Missing half of a practice won’t kill you or your rep with the team, it means you’re sore and resting yourself for the game (which is more important) the next day. Also, I wouldn’t consider us “down” right now. Yea, it’s been a rough start but the season is 82 games long.

not to mention, who the hell wouldn’t want to go home early to that Kirilenko chick?

      • jpelle82 - Oct 15, 2013 at 3:42 PM

5 goals in 5 games. and my guy has 4 assists too. you asked…

You have to take every comment Dumbfeld the blomfeld says, as well as his sidekick jpelle82, with a large grain of salt. They are both Crosby lovers and Ovechkin haters, actually they hate all Russians, especially Ovechkin. Pretty sure it’s that whole Canadian, we are the only ones who can play hockey thing they learned from their parents. I found out they are both very young kids, so they really don’t know much about hockey, or life in general.

    • babykaby - Oct 15, 2013 at 4:26 PM

Dumbfeld the blomfeld, once again you prove your stupidity. So, what you are saying is just because you are the captain you are not allowed to feel unwell. Is that correct? Let’s see, exactly how many practices or games has this particular captain missed? Give me a break, everyone gets sick and doesn’t feel well every now and then, even the perfect Crosby, who you so idolize (gag me). As I have told you before, grow up, get out of the basement and try to get a life.

Jeez Blomfeld, shut up. You are your biggest fan. No one cares about the videos. No one cares you hate the Caps. Just shut up already. Something happened, he left practice early. End of story. Shut up. I’m sure you’re a normal guy like the rest of us; not in your mom’s basement or any of that. So from normal guy to normal guy, shut up. Give it a break already.

I’m having trouble making the connection between him not feeling well and taking a Segway tour 2 days ago. Is there some kind of Segway flu we should all be aware of?
