NHL fines Caps’ Chimera about $4,500 for boarding

Oct 15, 2013, 10:29 PM EDT

The NHL didn’t suspend Washington Capitals winger Jason Chimera for boarding Edmonton Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz from Monday’s win, but they did fine him $4,487.18 on Tuesday.

Here’s the check from Monday:

Schultz continued playing in that game, which probably helped Chimera’s chances.

As PHT noted earlier today, this is the second time that the 34-year-old avoided a suspension for a questionable hit in the last two years.

$4,487.18. Uh, nice round number there! I like how they included the 18 cents. How do they figure out these fine amounts, I wonder. Anyway, I just hope Justin Schultz is ok.

it’s probably a percentage of pay…. still, they should probably round. i don’t think an extra $12.82 woulda hurt anybody.
