Update: The New York Rangers have placed Rick Nash on the injured reserve, according to sources including ESPN.

Rick Nash still isn’t skating nearly a week after being subjected to a high hit from San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart. Unfortunately, that’s not the worst part.

“He’s still feeling symptoms, so until I hear otherwise I don’t expect him back,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault explained, according to the team’s Twitter account.

If the Rangers ever needed Nash, it’s now. They have lost four of their first five games and have been outscored 20-5 in their last three contests. The Rangers have put Martin Biron and Arron Asham on waivers as an early attempt to turn things around before they find themselves in too big of a hole.

This is the second time this year that Nash has been sidelined with a suspected concussion. The last one occurred on Feb. 12 when he absorbed a hit from Boston’s Milan Lucic.

Shanahan almost apologized in the video describing Stuart’s suspension. Allowing blatant head shots after the NFL settlement is begging for a lawsuit by former players. I’m sure the owners will wail about how unfair it is later, but Bettman and the boys are running the league to a cliff.

Yep, Nash’s season is toast…. and so are the Rangers.

Mix in an Islander article. They play in the #1 market and best team!

Islanders are the Blue Jays of the NHL. They’ve started hot for a few years and then always seem to run out of gas past the 50 game mark. Last year they made the playoffs in a shortened season. But like clockwork, that 50 game mark came and went.

      Hows that for Islanders news?

I sure don’t remember the Blue Jays starting hot this past season, they stunk it up pretty much from Day 1.

Cups as i recall you are a Devils fan, so maybe you should worry about your team winning a game first this season then taking shots at other peoples teams.

As you recall I’m a devils fan? So my name wasn’t what gave it away? Are you Detective JDrew506? I’ve heard of you. Your reputation precedes you. My team is rebuilding. We’ll be back in a year. Not 20 years like the islanders rebuilding years. Win a playoff series before you get all proud. In 20 years you have nothing to show. 2 years ago devils were eastern conference champions playing in yet another Stanley Cup final.

Before I get all proud????I did not say anything other then before you flap your gums about other teams maybe just maybe your team should win 1 game this year first. It is you who is pounding on their chest like you were one of Jane Goodalls apes. So as I already stated until your Devils win a game your comments about the Islanders, or any other team for that matter, are just pathetic as the Devils record is right now.

That was a pretty bad hit to the head. Had it been playoffs, he would likely play, like Zubrus did in 2012 when Giroux gave a similar hit to Zubrus’ head.

Rangers invested a boatload in Nash. Let him heal. Even if its half a season. Like it took Crosby. Can’t mess with concussions in this game. NFL is bad enough and they play one game a week. NHL they play back-to-back games and up to 5 in a week

    This sucks.

I’d like to see Kreider and Mashinter come up now that Nash is on the IR and Asham is gone.

Another result of the injury, Nash has recurring nightmares that he is trapped forever on a crappy team with red pants and blue shirts ….. DOH!

I’m a Rangers fan but this was pretty funny. Well done.

And the hits just keep on coming, seriously.
