Photos: Ducks celebrate the Mighty days

Oct 13, 2013, 8:07 PM EDT

The Anaheim (previously Mighty) Ducks are celebrating their 20th anniversary by donning jerseys in honor of those Disney-inspired duds Sunday as they host the Ottawa Senators for #ThrowbackNight.

The Senators might seem like an odd choice, but there’s something fitting about facing the team they won their lone Stanley Cup against … while not wearing the sweaters that remind some of knucklepucks, the flying-V and Emilio Estevez.

Anyway, the team shared a few photos, so here are a few. (Click here for a great panoramic view of the locker room.)

(PHT will update this post with a photo of Teemu Selanne in the new-old sweater tonight, because … come on.)

As an added perk, the Ducks Web site also shared some great photos from a game that happened about 20 years ago against the Detroit Red Wings.

Warning: You might experience Guy Hebert nostalgia.

Everything about these uniforms is so much better than the current crap they wear. Bring back the duck goalie mask!

This logo is way ahead of its time…

Why did the Mighty Ducks get rid of the name/logo again??

    Stupid….

You know its funny. You, me, and the previous poster seem to like this look. Yet James O’brien and a lot of other people including the owner and former GM (Burke) don’t. I think a lot of the negativity comes from the fact it was Disney themed. Also a lot of “critics” think the logo belonged in the AHL because it was too cartoonish. HOGWASH! Bring it back!

I completely agree with what you are saying, but people don’t realize that the only thing about the team that was Disney themed was the name. The movie came out in 1992 and the team’s first year was 1993, but the Jersey’s worn by the NHL team were different than those used in the original movie. The jerseys in the original movie were green and yellow with a completely different logo. The NHL jerseys were used in the second movie, but the movie came out in 1994 meaning that the Jerseys and logo used in D2 and D3 were NHL themed. Those uniforms and logo are the original property of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. People shouldn’t be reminded of Charlie Conway and Gordon Bombay when they see them, they should be reminded of Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.

Dont forget Disney was the original owner of the team in 1993. I really hope we all get to see Teemu’s duck hunting goal celebration one last time. The fact he is still around is incredible. I remember being 4 or 5 and playing NHL 94 on sega. Getting old sucks

I always liked these jerseys. I remember Hiller had a mask a few years ago that had this logo on it and I loved it. Yet another example of Burke screwing something up. The colors and design is/was something thqt was so unique to this team. When they changed it they turned it into something that just wasnt unique in any way. Thankfully Dallas brought some green back. Here’s to hoping the Ducks become Mighty again. Who cares about being Disney. Its a classic look.

The crap they wear now is beyond the worst in the league. Terrible logo, color scheme, and design. No clue why they got rid of the original logo/colors.

I like these better than their current ones.

Apparently Selanne has the distinction of being the only Duck to have worn every single jersey variation… including “that one.”

  8. eagles512 - Oct 13, 2013 at 10:57 PM

Their current uniforms are the worst in hockey.

    Emiliooooooooooooo!

Eating ice cream with the enemy, huh coach?

The throwbacks look much better than what they have currently.
