Panthers didn’t exactly make Scrivens fight for first Kings’ shutout

Ben Scrivens quietly put up solid numbers in Toronto, so plenty of people* were intrigued by what he could pull off in spot starts for the Los Angeles Kings. He passed his first start with flying colors, getting a 3-0 shutout against the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

His first class session had a study hall-level degree of difficulty, though, as he only faced 20 shots from an impotent Panthers squad.

Los Angeles really cruised to this win today, out-shooting Florida in the first two periods and tying them 6-6 in the final frame.

Both Jordan Nolan and Dan Carcillo collected a goal and an assist apiece while Justin Williams found the net to throw a little more name recognition to the scoring mix.

As poor as the Panthers looked, it’s great for the Kings to see their undrafted 27-year-old backup play well in his first start after grabbing him while begrudgingly getting rid of much-hyped netminder Jonathan Bernier.
