Video: Islanders’ captain John Tavares pulls out a tooth after taking puck to the face

Oct 11, 2013, 9:20 PM EDT

New York Islanders fans had some anxious moments Friday, when the team’s captain John Tavares took a puck in the face during a game with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Below is a video of Tavares actually taking out a tooth, after getting hit with the puck. Like it was no big deal, right?

Tavares, 23, is off to a good start for the Islanders. He’s coming off a two-goal game three nights ago and has four points in three games to begin the season.

Did the classy Islander fan cheer when JT got hit in the face with a puck or to they only do that when another teams players take a puck to the face?

    • bcisleman - Oct 11, 2013 at 9:44 PM

And PGH fans never show lack of class. I think Isles fans all remember their reaction when RDP got his face broken. Maybe you should be worrying about your own team rather than trolling an article about another team that doesn’t involve your team.

Big difference. If Crosby got KO’ed by a check of a fight you might have a point. Fans will cheer big plays like that. When Crosby took a puck to the face what exactly was there to cheer about other than a player bleeding on the ice after taking a puck to the face? Stay classy Isles fans.

      • bcisleman - Oct 11, 2013 at 11:42 PM

Absolutely NO difference othe than to trolls like you who have NO idea what class is & have NO business lecturing anybody about it. A player is bleeding on the ice and fans are cheering. Stay classy PGH fans!

I was in the stands that night and I’m pretty sure everyone was just pumped to see a goalie fight that night you cheer when a fight ends in a take down. We also didn’t get to see slow mo replay after slow mo replay to be able to determine if he was even hurt

      • bcisleman - Oct 13, 2013 at 4:24 AM

The fact that he stayed down after he was hit should have been a clue.

    • jl9830 - Oct 12, 2013 at 2:50 AM

You guys lost to the Panthers tonight. Worry about your own team and stop trolling articles about other teams. Maybe if you and your team didn’t whine about literally everything, other fans wouldn’t hate you guys.

Not sure it was a puck. Think it was an errant stick refs missed.

    • Jackson Scofield - Oct 11, 2013 at 11:04 PM

Either your blind, didn’t watch the video, or are just a major homer.

      • bcisleman - Oct 11, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Saw it live and on replay, Didn’t say it was a stick, Said I thought it was. Try not to be a total dick, if you are able.

“Not sure it was a puck. Think it was an errant stick refs missed”. So if you saw it live as you claimed you did why did you even come up with the conclusion that it may have been an errant stick? I also watched the entire game and about 10 replays and at no point did I think it was a “errant stick” Then someone calls you out on it and you start name calling. Seems to me you are the one who is a dick. If you can’t handle someone actually coming back at you proving you wrong then go on some feed where everyone will agree with you.

I saw a stick from a Hawks player come up by JT’s head and saw his head snap back. Saw the same on replay and listened to Isles announcers say that it was a stick. Therefore I said I thought it was a stick. For that, JS accuses me of being a homer and of not having seen the play. It would take a pretty strange mind to infer that he “proved” me wrong from that since 1) I stated that I thought I saw it and nothing he could say could possibly prove or disprove what I thought I saw and 2) he offered no proof.

Apparently you and he are of the same mind. If anyone offers an opinion that differs from yours or even suggests another possible conclusion, they are lying or are a homer. That fits my definition of a dick.

The MSG feed mentioned maybe a high stick when they saw the blood, but not because they saw it in the play; on review, they said it was the puck that caught him. I couldn’t get the Chicago feed, just the MSG feed, since I live in NY but I have to say the announcers were a lot more respectful & knowledgeable than most ‘opposing team announcers'; I was pleasantly surprised as a life-long Hawks fan. Of course, no one pronounces Hjalmarsson’s name correctly!
BTW, pretty good shout-out to Tavares here (with the video as well):

Tavares is tough and skilled, great combination.
Go Hawks, lets close this out!

Wow @bcisleman don’t contradict yourself when you and others did the EXACT same thing when Crosby broke his…asswipe

    • bcisleman - Oct 11, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Wow try not to be an idiot. I did nothing of the kind. Never cheer a player getting hurt. Have not in nearly 50 years of watching sports. If other Isles fans did, shame on them and the PGH fans who were cheering RDP’s injury…which, if you were paying ANY attention tothe thread and not being, ya know, a total jackass, you’d know I only brought up because a PGH brought up the Sid injury and the response of isles fans.

You have to forgive pitpenz, he only started watchin hockey last year. He needs to read above people’s comments or Wikipedia the penguins to find out what has went on in the last five years with the penz who he thinks RULEZZZZ.

  7. bruinspaw - Oct 12, 2013 at 1:58 AM

That’s why you have got to love hockey! Only sport in the world that requires you to actually have a pair of balls to play!! Keep it classy JT!

  8. 7mantel - Oct 12, 2013 at 8:46 AM

I didnt see the game or replay but the story is about JT spitting out his tooth and not missing a shift ! You have to respect hockey players for that alone , no matter what sweater their wearing !

  9. pitpenguinsrulez - Oct 12, 2013 at 11:49 AM

@broadstreetbaddest88 haha that’s funny…and as normal Flyers Fans use their same elementary school insult towards us Pens fans.

    • broadstreetsbaddest88 - Oct 12, 2013 at 12:17 PM

I figured I’d stoop to your elementary school level considering all your comments are elementary school comments just like your user name that you probably have written all over your 4th grade 5star binder tryin to convince your self your a die hard penz fan.
