Isles clear Clutterbuck to play, Wings clear Tootoo

Heads likely turned around the NHL on Wednesday with news that two of the league’s most rambunctious players — Cal Clutterbuck and Jordin Tootoo — have been medically cleared to return to action.

Clutterbuck, 25, is ready to play after missing the first three games of the season with a leg laceration suffered during the preseason. Original estimates suggested he’d miss 4-6 weeks, but the Isles winger will be ready to go when his team takes on the defending Cup champion Blackhawks on Friday.

Tootoo, 30, has been sidelined since Sept. 19 with a shoulder injury and missed Detroit’s first three games of the season as a result. Though he’s been medically cleared, there’s no telling when he’s actually get back in the lineup — he was a healthy scratch at times last season and Detroit has a glut of forwards currently available for selection.

Despite this, Tootoo is excited at the prospect of getting back in.

“I’m in the right state to get back at ‘er,” he told the Red Wings website. “It’s about making sure every day I come to the rink I’m ready mentally and physically.”

Clutterbuck’s return is the reason Reinhart has been sent down. Look forward to seeing Cal in action. Nino has two points already. No pressure, Cal!

That’s one whole point more than he had in 55 games with the Isles two years ago!

wow, 2 points!! The Isles are sure kicking themselves now!

It will be interesting to see how Nino develops vs the performance of Cal & Eamon McAdam, the goaltending prospect the Isles selected w/ the pick they got in the deal.

My guess is that Pierre-Marc Bouchard is the odd man out when CB makes his Isles debut. I formerly predicted Regin but am singing a different tune after his goal last night. Regin and Nelson have been more impressive so far and Cappy has made a couple disparaging comments in PMB’s direction.

I also think he wants to keep the 4th line in tact.

Tootoo is a total waste of space I know Babcock would live to get rid of him

TooToo keeps opposing teams honest – not the most talented, but wish we could transfuse his spirit and attitude into Ericsson and a few other or our other younger players.

Don’t get rid of him until you have someone that matches his guts and grit.

Who else will throw down like he will? Abdelkader… meh… not remotely the same.

Too bad that Big E didn’t get to play with Chelli, He would have taught him the same way he taught Fisher when he was first starting. Fisher learned the attitude from Chelios.

        Yep, very true.

Tootoo ain’t keeping anyone honest. If that’s your idea of an enforcer you are in for a shock.

I’ve been shocked many times… but have known TooToo his entire career… he won’t be one of those times.

It was tough finding a pic with Clutterbuck and Tootoo together. But I did it. I’m good at blogging.
