It’s safe to say that this is not how Tim Thomas envisioned his comeback going.

The two-time Vezina Trophy winning goaltender allowed five goals to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday before being yanked and today he surrendered another two quick goals to the Philadelphia Flyers before getting the hook. This time though, his departure was likely due to an injury, according to the Courier-Post’s Dave Isaac.

Update: Thomas is done for the night due to lower-body injury, reports’s Adam Kimelman.

Thomas is 39 years old and trying to prove he’s still worthy of playing in the NHL after skipping the 2013 campaign. He wasn’t able to secure a contract over the summer, but joined the Florida Panthers on a tryout basis before they agreed to a one-year, $3.75 million deal.

If he needs to spend more than tonight on the sidelines, then Scott Clemmensen, who is coming off of minor knee surgery, will likely end up splitting Florida’s goaltending duties with 23-year-old Jacob Markstrom for now.

If you missed them, here are the two goals Thomas gave up to the Flyers:

Poor Tim Thomas. I really like that guy

LOL! Looked like a fish out of the water flopping all over the ice. That’s actually funny. How can you feel sorry for a guy who hasn’t played in a year and is able to get a 3.75mil contract. You think you.ll give the money back if he decides to call it quit before the end of the season? Wouldn’t surprise me if he does.

You made it longer than Forsberg. That’s something anyway.

Wow, those bounces are killing him from what I’ve seen over the last two games.. Doesn’t look like its the smaller nets either. Although, I believe it was the 2011 Game 5 SCF overtime that ended 10 seconds in from a puck bouncing off the end boards and getting caught out like that. But, as a Bruins fan, for every 2 that went in, he saved another 15 that had no business being saved.

The problem is, every goal this guy lets in will be scrutinized due to his history. Unless he’s going .940, he’s going to be under a microscope.

Flyers fans 3 mother ago: “damn it, why didn’t the Flyers sign Thomas”

Panther fans now: “damn it, why didn’t the Flyers sign Thomas”

Does old age count as a “lower body injury”?

What did they expect? He’s older than Methuselah and plays the most active style of goaltending this side of Dominik Hasek.

    Time to start blaming liberals…..

      It’s all Obamacare’s fault.

      • joey4id - Oct 9, 2013 at 12:03 AM

Yes! Western civilization is coming to an end because of reformed health care. It’s ok to sell guns to everyone, but a damn shame to help millions and millions of Americans get access to health care and avoid bankruptcy because of their medical bills. Too funny!

      • hockeyflow33 - Oct 9, 2013 at 12:13 AM

I’d wouldn’t expect anything less from you than to buy the Obamacare hype. It will cost most Americans more money than this horrendous administration has told you.

Yes! Yes! Let’s trust the GOP because they never fabricated stories to go to war. The Bush administration wasn’t horrendous.

1st i thought there must be an interference until they showed the replay. Then i thought he lost an edge…..Now it’s looking like a groin pull….That year off may have just caught up to him!

  9. joey4id - Oct 8, 2013 at 10:53 PM

Actually! This is normal for a 39 year old who skipped a full year. 3.75 mil for this guy is a joke considering the circumstances. He’s going to need more than training camp and few pre-season games to find his game, if he does at all find his game. This is exactly why I wrote here and believe the Panthers should have given him a conditional contract based on number of starts and wins.

      Hindsight, eh?

      • joey4id - Oct 8, 2013 at 11:58 PM

Go back and look and my previous comments in all the articles pertaining to Thomas you’ll see nothing but the same sort of comments.
