Video: Oilers’ Brown fights Devils’ Salvador

Oct 7, 2013, 11:47 PM EST

Into the second week of the NHL regular season, and fights on the ice persist, even if the debate about fisticuffs continues off it.

Oilers’ forward Mike Brown dropped the gloves with Devils’ veteran defenseman Bryce Salvador during the second period of Monday’s game between the two teams.

The fight was quickly over, with each player landing some quick punches and falling to the ice.

Wow. I never thought of Salvador as an above average fighter and figured Brown would of destroyed him. Definitely not what I was expecting.

Is Brown an above average fighter? Honestly the guy has never left an impression on me, he was awful as a Canuck (and just getting his feet wet in the NHL) and I can’t recall him doing much of anything against other fighters since…

But yeah kudos to Salvador sticking up for his partner. Pretty hilarious mismatch seeing Mike Brown in a shoving match with Marek freaking Zidlicky..

The only reason there is any debating about fighting in hockey is because you journalists refuse to let it go! You guys did your poll, and it was overwhelmingly lopsided in favor of fighting being part of the game. So please, the debate is over, quit trying to invent controversy and move on to something else already.

      Well said dueman

As long is there will be fighting there will be a debate. Experts about the lasting effects of repeated blows to the head will prevail over the uneducated fans. If you don’t want to ban fighting you can at least support safety measures and/ or reasearching about the effects of punches to the head during a hockey fight.

God I love hockey fights get rid of the stage fights

I think we’re all getting a little sensitive to the hockey fight thing…the article mentions the controversy surrounding fighting but really isn’t biased one way or the other…so really it’s just a highlight reel about a fight, which basically concretes fighting as a part of the sport worthy of re-showing. Which I appreciate. Because I didn’t see the game and I like to catch the highlights/news on websites such as these.

Maybe instead of “moving on” we could just jump off the writers’ backs when they try to do a brief article about fighting – I hate goons, but I’m all for fighting in hockey – so I’m also all for keeping the articles about it coming, as long as they show the fight.

That fight tells me one thing: Zidlicky is a candyass. Really classy to escort your dance partner right over to your enforcer…
