Video: Winnipeg applauds Selanne’s final visit

Oct 6, 2013, 9:11 PM EDT

Winnipeg Jets fans haven’t forgotten what Teemu Selanne did for their team, even if it was ages ago under very different circumstances. They gave him a standing ovation on Sunday, which is likely his final NHL game in his first NHL home:

Good stuff.

One can’t help but wonder if he’ll get standing ovations in other stops. (Random guess: probably not Colorado.)

One instance where Jets fans are doing it right.

    Well done Jets fans, classy!

That’s a bold comment. Have you been to Winnipeg to see a game? Sorry to sound like a homer but Winnipeg fans are some of the smartest, passionate and LOUDEST fans in hockey. We know good hockey when we see it, for and against the Jets.

I like the jets fans. As a pens fan, I found it hilarious when they chanted “Mario’s poolboy” at Sid. It was much better than all of our rivals chanting “Crosby sucks”

And the first time Ovechkin came to town. Remember “Crosby better”,lol. Loved that one!

Hockeydon is clueless. If you want to beak management for the lack of results be my guest but beaking the fans when you see them do this? Tell me how many other arenas would cheer an opposing player. This was also the same arena that gave Stamkos a standing O 2 years ago when he netted his 60th

Ya, leave winterpeg alone. They dont have anything else to cheer about

I wasn’t breaking the fans for doing this. This was what would be expected. I was referring to the boo bird “fans” coming out against the Jets in their own barn.

I mean, they were the hapless Thrashers, then 1 full season and near the end of a lockout shortened season they start booing their own team? Any fan with an ounce of brains had to know nobody was going to turn the Thrashers around in less than two seasons.

We’re talking about a Thrashers team that couldn’t even get their own farm team to employ the same system they did. The fact that the Jets are doing as good as they are is props to their management. Something the Thrashers couldn’t overcome.

No, when I say the Jets fans are doing it right in cheering for Selane I mean just that. Booing your own young players during a rebuild from the Atlanta debacle is not doing it right.

What we were booing last night was a half-hearted effort. This is a blue collar town, and when the team doesn’t do the things like fighting hard for the puck there’s unhappy fans here. They were out shot, out played and tried to be a little too cute at times. The Jets are capable of winning more games but their not so talented to be playing like that. They know it. And the fans know it.

I didn’t even know you guys were booing your own team again last night.

I’ll say it again: Booing your own young players during a rebuild from the Atlanta debacle is not doing it right.
