Jack Nicklaus drops puck at Columbus’ opener

Oct 4, 2013, 9:33 PM EDT

It’s no secret that hockey players love golf – see Sean Bergenheim‘s taunt – but is the feeling mutual? One cannot be too sure, but kudos to the Columbus Blue Jackets for drawing in Jack Nicklaus to drop the puck at their season opener.

Check out video of the ceremony below:

Here are a few photos of “The Golden Bear” looking a little weird in a Blue Jackets sweater:

As you’ll notice, they went with No. 18, as Nicklaus’ Twitter account (yes, he has one) shared:

Finally, one more via the Blue Jackets:

Did anyone ask how he feels about the Blue Jackets’ startling post-goal cannon? Bet he loves it like everyone else …

Wtf was that about? Is he from the Columbus area? Or was it because Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes are at Northwestern tomorrow?

Yes, He’s from Columbus so its not that Weird. The Presidents Cup is going on in Columbus at Muirfield Village which is his golf course, another reason he’s there. Nice try with the OSU troll comment.

My bad. Sorry Columbus. Probably should have looked it up before I made the comment. For the record, I love the post goal cannon!

Is Horton still taking 18 when he returns? I know he used that number is Boston. I’m not asking because I think its off limits now that a golfer used it.. just curious what he used the in press conference.

Hortons taking #8 with the CBJ. Umberger is #18.

      18 for Jack = 18 majors

Flames win! And Monohan with his first NHL goal! I know the 3 out 4 points pace won’t continue but at least the team is working hard and competing if they can do that all year it’ll be a step in the right direction.

Columbus is gonna be good this year thanks to all the X-Rangers that immigrated there. Losing Nash was the best thing that ever happened to you guys. Who woulda thought?

I resent that cheap shot at our beloved cannon!! Do you realize how many seasons that cannon going off near the end of the game, when CBJ would score a garbage time goal, woke up us season ticket holders?!? Do you know the trouble we would have gotten in with our wives if we kept sleeping until the cleaning crew woke us and we got home hours later? That cannon has saved many a Central Ohio marriage!!! Mock the team if you must, but leave the cannon alone!
