Video: Datsyuk goes top-shelf backhand to give Wings 2-0 lead

Oct 2, 2013, 9:21 PM EDT

It’s arguably the toughest shot in hockey to stop: the backhand.

And Detroit Red Wings veteran forward Pavel Datsyuk illustrated this perfectly tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. Datsyuk ripped a backhander from the hash marks to the top shelf, over the glove of Sabres goalie Ryan Miller

The goal put Detroit up 2-0.

Insane skill by Datsyuk. It never gets old watching him play hockey. And a top PP unit consisting of Datsyuk, Alfredsson, Zetterberg, Franzen, and Kronwall? Is that even fair?

Dats is inhuman on skates and with the puck!

But the PP needs to score to be scary… tonight = nothing.

Looking forward to Alfie and Weiss breaking through soon.

God I love watching Datsyuk play. I wish he shot more–his shot is so, so deceiving and accurate. He could easily be a 40 goal scorer if he just ripped that wrister more often. But either way, whether he’s a setup man or sniper, it’s such an absolute joy to watch this guy play. Soak it up now, his highlights will still be legendary 50 years from now.

One of most entertaining players of the league. We re fortunate he decided to stay with the Wings this year.

It looks like a very light crowd at the Red Wings game, a lot of empty seats….

According to the attendance was 20,066. That is a sellout.

At least it was a loud crowd. When they had a look in on the Avs-Ducks game, the arena was so quiet I thought they had lost the audio, but then I could hear the skates cutting the ice and the sticks hitting the puck; there just wasn’t ANY sound coming from the spectators.

That was before Roy came out roaring! 😀

I mean 22 straight years in the playoffs we have learned to save our money for the playoffs. We consider the regular season a warm up.

And whatever team you “root” for I bet when the wings are in your town there is a sea of red invading your stadium.

The Red Wings enjoy tremendous corporate support from the businesses all around the greater Detroit metro area. This means tickets are bought and paid for, often season tickets, and sometimes end up unused.

It doesn’t get any better than Datsyuk magic.

Best player with the puck. Bar none.

Datsyuk has a wicked backhand. He’s used it plenty of times to get some sick goals.

Remember this one: backhand, top shelf, from 5 ft. away.

Or this one? 20 ft out…
