Ryan Pulock AP

You can officially add another youngster to the New York Islanders’ stockpile on the blue line.

The team announced the signing of 2013 first-round pick Ryan Pulock to his three-year, entry-level contract. He was the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft.

Pulock joins 2012  fourth overall pick Griffin Reinhart and 2009 first-rounder Calvin de Haan in the stable of prospects on the Isles defense. Throw in Travis Hamonic (2008 second round) who’s already established himself in the league and you begin to understand why people like where the team is headed.

With those guys on the blue line and forwards like John Tavares, Michael Grabner, with Brock Nelson on the way, youth is and will be king on Long Island.

Given that Grabs will soon be 26 and that Stromer is generally seen as the best prospect in the system, I’d have put Stromer instead of Grabs on this list. Also most would rate Matt Donovan over De Haan as a prospect.

Agree with the article in general though. In five years, if not before, the Isles will have one of the best offenses and quite possibly the best defense in the NHL. All that stands between them and becoming possibly the most dominant team in the NHL is solving their future between the pipes. To truly contend for the title, they need a first rate franchise netminder and its not clear that any of their prospects will become that.

They HAVE to make a move during the season to improve between the pipes. They should have the pieces to do so.
