Yes, Tim Thomas is playing for Florida tonight

Normally, a Florida Panthers – Tampa Bay Lightning preseason game is only interesting if there are injuries or humiliating crowds. Thursday’s exhibition is a big exception, however, as Tim Thomas will make his Panthers debut tonight.

Thomas, 39, hasn’t experienced NHL competition since the Boston Bruins were eliminated by the Washington Capitals 2-1 in OT of Game 7 of a first-round series on April 25, 2012.

Being that this is a preseason contest, there’s no telling if Thomas will get a full 60 minutes of reps. It’s common for goalies to trade off periods. Of course, considering his rust and how close the regular season is, they might want to throw the veteran out for a full contest.

The Miami Herald’s George Richards reports that the initial plan is for Thomas to play for the first two periods before giving way to Jacob Markstrom, but we shall see.

Either way, PHT will be keeping tabs on his night.

The Panthers are expecting a record preseason crowd. According to sources asking to not be named (for fear of being associated with the franchise), “We may get into the double digits.” The source went on to say that a second usher had to be called in to deal with the sudden influx.

What’s the point in having Markstrom play the third period? Give Timmy the whole game. He’s going to need the minutes to get in game shape and Markstrom should have already won the backup job. Clemmensen is the odd man out I would think.

He’s been staying in shape just in case the government collapses. He’s been staying in shape by lugging his gold (cash is worthless to him) and doing military exercises just in case the non prepared storm his hideout.

You mean like when Janet Reno sent the FBI storm troopers in to burn 50 people alive in Waco, Texas ? To arrest one guy accused of rape.? Or the time the FBI shot dead a boy , a dog and a woman to arrest a guy accused of cutting the end off a shotgun at Ruby Ridge ? Is that what you mean. ? India bought 100 tons of gold last year. Where do you want your gold sent to ? Not the Fed Reserve. They refused to return 100 tons of gold to Germany two years ago. Can’t find it is their story and they’re sticking to it.

It will be very interesting to see when Florida plays Boston. Tuukka vs. Thomas!

People give Tim a tough time about taking a year off, but when you look at how hard the guy worked in his career and how much focus he had…can you really blame him for wanting some time to himself and his family?

I hope the Bruins fans give Tim a standing ovation when he returns to play in Boston. He deserves nothing less.

I’ll be in Memphis the first time they come around, pretty bummed. Going to see the Stars on the Fifth though so I get to see one ex-Bruin.
