Report: Clarkson to appeal 10-game ban

Sep 24, 2013, 1:16 PM EDT

Toronto forward David Clarkson is “definitely disputing” the automatic 10-game suspension he received for leaving the bench on an illegal line change to join an altercation in Sunday’s Maple Leafs-Sabres game, according to David Alter of 590 The Fan.

Other reporters, including ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun and Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, have also chimed in on the possibility of an appeal.

What Clarkson could cite in an appeal, we’re not entirely sure. Even Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle admitted after the game that Clarkson “made a mistake.” From the NHL’s ruling:

The suspension is mandated by Rule 70.10, which states: “The first player to leave the players’ or penalty bench illegally during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation from either or both teams shall be suspended without pay for the next 10 regular League and/or playoff games of his team.”

See anything in there he could appeal? What would Jackie Chiles see?

What a debacle this turned out to be for the Leafs. If only they had dressed Orr or Mclaren.

If the Sabres had only dressed Ott or Kaleta.

alright, did anybody else see Kessel and Clarkson instead of Kramer and Chiles walking into Bettman’s office at 3:17? I did.

Why? It’s clearly in the rules that if you come off the bench during an altercation that it’s an automatic 10 game suspension..he did soooo 10 games, sir. Quit wasting peoples time

Clarkson will appeal on the grounds that he really doesn’t wannnna be suspended, and that the rules aren’t faaaaaaiiir.

“I, uh, left my mouth piece in the box. When I remembered, I went to get it. Turns out, there was a scrum going on. Can you believe it? I don’t see how this could be more than a too many men penalty.”

You are right. In fact I think Bettman should add another 5 games on to this fool’s penalty for wasting the league’s time.

Do the crime, do the time.

I admire him sticking up for his team though against King Kong and the Sabers.

If you want to have any credibility, you will need to learn how to spell “Sabres”.

      • ibieiniid - Sep 24, 2013 at 2:30 PM

you act like everybody that isn’t a Sabres fan hasn’t misspelled it once or twice.

      • ibieiniid - Sep 24, 2013 at 2:31 PM

even though I know what I’m saying, my double-negative confused even myself. apologies if I threw anybody’s brain into an infinite loop.

    OK “Bullwinkle.”

I spelled it correctly in an earlier post on the Kessel hack. But hey, you got me on the typo on this one!

For one, Scott has no place in the league. The guy can’t even play the game. Even enforcers should have a certain skill level to be able to play in the NHL, but Scott is there for one reason only.

However, Kessel deserves the maximum penalty. That slash was nasty and he better watch his back next time he plays the Sabres. That kind of retaliation can’t be tolerated by the league. Kessel has to keep his stick under control and his emotions in check. Totally a cowardly move. He deserves to have his arse kicked now.

Glad he’s not in Boston anymore if he reacts like that.
