One of Calgary’s key veteran presences may be out of action for a while.

Mike Cammalleri, one of the Flames’ alternate captains, is reportedly dealing with a major hand injury, according to Sportsnet’s Roger Millions:

Mike Cammalleri, big question for #Flames. Hearing significant injury to his hand. Has missed games and much of pre season.

Cammalleri may miss much more time. He is skating, but major issues holding his stick..etc... tough loss for rebuilding #Flames if so

Cammalleri, 31, led the Flames in scoring last season with 32 points in 44 games.

It’s still unclear exactly when he injured his hand or what the ailment is. Cammalleri has played this preseason, scoring a goal in a Sept. 14 split-squad game against Edmonton, but has since been held out of Calgary’s last three games and isn’t expected to play in its final two, according to Calgary’s Fan 590.

Cammalleri is in the final year of his five-year, $30 million deal and will become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.
