Lidstrom

Nicklas Lidstrom will be back in a Detroit Red Wings uniform for the 2014 Winter Classic Alumni Showdown versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 31 at Comerica Park.

The Red Wings made the announcement today.

“I’m really looking forward to the Winter Classic and being a part of something like that again, and to play with some of my former teammates when I played back in 90s and early 2000s,” said Lidstrom. “It’ll be exciting. I’m looking forward to the big game too when the Wings and the Leafs lace them up.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play again.”

One of the greatest defenseman of all time, Lidstrom retired following the 2011-12 season after a career that featured, among many other things, seven Norris Trophy awards.

We’re setting the over/under on standing-ovation time at five minutes.

I just went to the list of players planning to play – Konstantinov is on that list. Holy crap.

    Delveccio, Lindsay

I’m excited to see Lidstrom play again, this is really good news, but holy crap it’s like the hall of fame on skates here.

Even on the Leafs, there’s some surprising one. Johnny Bower (88 yrs old) in net.

      Very cool… amazing history.

Can’t wait to see Mr. Lindsay throw an elbow–you just know he’s sharpening those bad boys. At 80+ years he’s still one of the toughest guys on the ice.

Sometimes you gotta wonder how entertaining it would’ve been to see Tie Domi play in the same era as Gordie and Ted. Man oh man.

Good luck to the old Toronto alumni players trying to get around lindstrom lol. Lindstrom can still play at a NHL caliber level.

How do you spell his name wrong twice?!?

        Detroit public schools.

Blackhawks- didn’t 17 kids just get shot on a playground in Chicago? I’m not going to make fun of that in any form because it’s sick and tragic, but how about you lay off the unnecessary shots at the city of Detroit.

That being said, why the HELL is Nicklas Lidstrom so hard to spell?!? Not like we were staring at the back of that man’s jersey for over 20 years or anything.

How dare you make fun of Jason Woolley, the Sabres legend…

Any chance I can order a poster of that graphic? It is outstanding!

      YES – – I checked all over… couldn’t find one… yet

I have a suspicion that Mr. Gordie Howe will be in attendance. And honestly, he doesn’t even have to play in the game, i’d pay money, good money, to watch him step onto that ice and skate around for a little while. Maybe keep the goalies in so he can shoot at something, but otherwise just watch the man skate in front of a home town crowd

With six outdoor games this season, the Winter Classic has become a joke.
