Unsigned Morrow still talking with interested teams

The summer has come and gone, training camp is well underway, and former Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow still doesn’t have a contract. It sounds like the league hasn’t forgotten about the 34-year-old forward though.

There are several teams interested in Morrow, reports the Dallas Morning News. He’s negotiating, but after his brief stint in Pittsburgh last season, he’s looking for one thing in particular.

“There’s a lot that goes into it, and money is a part of it,” Morrow said. “But, at the same time, I want to be on a team where I think I can win, where I think I can contribute to a winner. I don’t have a lot of years left, so I’d love to get a couple of runs in there.”

He’s an injury risk and his age is a factor, but Morrow is still capable of chipping in offensively and brings years worth of leadership experience. It’s not hard to envision teams wanting him to serve in a complimentary role. For the right price, of course.

Teams must feel he doesn’t have much left to give. 34 is not real old, and this guy could really play at one time.

Well the $64 million cap ceiling has locked out quite a few productive vets. Morrow can still play but teams want the young kids on cheap ELCs, alteast this season, before the cap goes back up.

you hit the nail on the head. him wanting to play for a “winner” only compounds the issue for him. his “wants” will subside when he realizes his “need” for a job when the season starts and he doesnt have one yet. guys get hurt, he will get signed somewhere for a 1 yr deal, probably cheap. with more cap room and a decent performance he could then get what he “wants” before next season starts. i think he’s probably partially enjoying skipping the rigors of training camp while weighing his options.

    Didn’t Pittsburgh like him?

not enough to pay him what he is probably asking. if my memory serves me, i’m pretty sure he was scratched for a game or two in the playoffs too.

He wasn’t a healthy scratch, he had a split kneecap and missed a few games.

I enjoyed watching him contribute from the time he was acquired to the end of the regular season, much like the other Penguins acquisitions (Murray, Iginila). He was scratched a few times in the Playoffs and didn’t show all that much drive/energy/want during the Penguins run.

yeah but not enough to sign him again for multiple mil when there is one spot if that left in the offense. pierre lebrun actually said pittsburgh is still talking to him, but even at that i dont see it happening, they are still over the salary cap as of today.
