PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

After playing in 1,178 regular season games with the Ottawa Senators, Daniel Alfredsson said that his preseason debut with the Detroit Red Wings didn’t “feel that different.” That being said, he’s been having fun with his new team. (CSN Chicago)

Calgary Flames forward Matt Stajan rarely fights, but he earned a lot of praise from his teammates after dropping his gloves in a preseason game. (

Philadelphia Flyers forward Michael Raffl, 24, got a chance to play on a line with Vincent Lecavalier and Wayne Simmonds on Tuesday and the results were positive. (CSN Philly)

The Stanley Cup’s tour is winding down, but it will make a stop at Millennium Park in Chicago today. (Chicago Tribune)

Chris Bigras has agreed to an entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche. He was taken with the 32nd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. (

Patrik Elias likes what he’s seen from forward Damien Brunner, but he was reluctant to predict that Brunner would end up with a contract after joining the New Jersey Devils on a tryout basis. “You look at the guys who are here and there aren’t too many spots open,” Elias said. (The Star-Ledger)

Devils went from losing Parise, Kovalchuk and Clarkson. To getting Clowe, Ryder, Jagr, Schneider, and Brunner. The ripening of a young defenseman Eric Gelinas, and the sudden emergence of Reid Boucher.

The Devils look pretty decent this year.

Brunner is soft on the boards and still unproven… jagr hit or miss due to age, hopefully clowe rebounds from his measly 3 goals last year. Schneider and ryder is a great addition. But I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Brunner turned down 2 offers from detroit. If he is lucky enough to sign somewhere it’ll be for less money than detroit initially offered. Niiice. Who’s the brainiac, Brunner or his agaent? Eight weeks ago Brunner ought to have fired his agent and begged Holland for a one deal. He will not be missed in detroit.

Yea brunner is skilled and helped us get into the playoffs as well. But I agree I won’t miss him a great deal, we already had too many players like him that are soft on the puck and boards. He wanted 3.5 million after playing a half season?! Guy was crazy. Most players would take a pay cut to play for the wings organization… he wanted a pay raise. Young, naive, and greedy.

Dont get your hopes up on the devils, their acquisitions are far inferior to their losses…all but schneider.
