Video: Ovechkin shaken up in pre-season tilt

Sep 14, 2013, 7:40 PM EDT

Alex Ovechkin was on the receiving end of a hard hit in the first period of Saturday’s exhibition game between his Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets.

And that seemed to shake up the perennial super star. Although he has since returned to the game.

Losing Ovechkin to an injury at any point in the season would be a blow to the Capitals.

He is not only their main offensive weapon, but after struggling out of the gate last season, he caught fire down the stretch, finishing with a league-best 32 goals.

As per Katie Carrera of the Washington Post, Ovechkin did not speak to reporters due to a swollen lip following the Capitals 4-3 shootout win and needed stitches, according to head coach Adam Oates.

It’s safer in the KHL. If a player highsticks a star, he is shot in between his eyes in his home by the Russian mafia / league owners within 12 hours of the incident.

Why hasn’t it been mentioned anywhere that there was an Australian kid playing on Troy Brouwer’s line? He assisted on the first goal.

First off, Ovi wasn’t on the receiving end he was the hitter. Secondly, the guy about to be hit got scared and clinched up bring his stick high which hit Ovi. Luckily this wasn’t Crosby or he would be out another year.

BTW Ovi was my first round draft pick

BTW, Ovi would have missed Crosby because he would have flashed his stanley cup ring and blinded the Crazy 8. His tainted shield wou,d not have protected him. Wait! Maybe Ovi got a stick in the face because he was distracted by the no tuck jersey rule. Yeah. That’s it.

joey4id, maybe you’re an idiot. Yeah. That’s it.
