Oilers rule out Nugent-Hopkins for preseason

In case there was any doubt left, Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish confirmed to 630 CHED’s Dan Tencer on Sunday that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins won’t play in any preseason games.

“Absolutely not,” MacTavish said.

Instead, the new Oilers GM said they’re sticking with “the most pessimistic schedule that they started with,” which is a target date of Nov. 1.

Naturally, the 20-year-old might beat that estimate, yet it might be a good rule of thumb.

Nugent-Hopkins recently said that his shoulder is healing well, noting that his shot feels better than it did last year. The Oilers are probably wise not to rush him back too soon, though.

This kid is so talented and has the potential to become a superstar…but he’s just built so thinly and his frame is so wiry I don’t know if he’s ever going to live up to expectations.

So right. I hope he does something like Gary Roberts’ program.

He needs to if he’s gonna be successful in this league! I hear about people like Stamkos and Subban–people who are already physical monsters and pure muscle–going through these hard and rigorous workouts, and look where it takes them to. Stamkos developed into one of the best players in the world, and Subban just won the Norris. Both have attributed part of their success to their workout regimen.

Why can’t RNH just hit the gym?

    Bulk up my dude!

Can’t understand why this kid isn’t doing anything drastic to gain muscle mass.

Dallas Eakins will whip him into shape. RNH doesn’t have the ego Kadri does, so it might even go smoother.

Poor management. Sometimes players should finish junior hockey not because they need to improve their skill but strictly because they need to mature physically. Hopkins should of finished juniour, at least

Love all the armchair trainers ragging on a teenager for being unable to add mass at will.

You guys realize he’s not physically mature yet right? Also have you seen this kid with his equipment off? Some people just do not have the frame to support a lot of muscle, and unfortunately he looks like one of them.
