Remembering Lokomotiv Yaroslavl: NHL players mourn on two-year anniversary of tragic plane crash

A number of National Hockey League players, past and present, fans and media mourned those lost in a tragic plane crash that killed the entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team two years ago today.

Among those killed were former NHLers Pavol Demitra, Ruslan Salei, Josef Vasicek, Karlis Skrastins, Karel Rachunek, Alexander Karpotsev, Igor Korolev, and the team’s head coach Brad McCrimmon.

    it was a horrible tragedy to the Russian hockey community and to people at large … may God assuage the pain being suffered by those who lost family and friends in this calamitous event …

    Watched great documentary recently on the re-play of events, investigation and cause.
    All point to numerous pilot errors as well as flaws in the Russian lax rules on air safety.

    Think it was PBS- look up a great job of reconstruction.

      Saw that too. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know the whole story of what happened. So sad because it was so preventable. A simple rule like restricting pilots to only being allowed to fly planes they were actually trained to fly.
