Sabres prez has no comment on third jersey

Sep 5, 2013, 3:20 PM EDT

source:

Sabres president Ted Black had no comment when contacted by The Buffalo News following the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the unveiling of the club’s third jersey yesterday.

For a sample of said reaction, let’s turn to Twitter:

So strong has the condemnation been that you wonder if the Sabres might go back to the drawing board on this one.

Maybe if the jersey played La Cucaracha when the Sabres scored?”

It gets worse every time you look at it.

These jersey’s are aging like a boxed wine.

        I’d say more like milk.

Triumph the Angry Comic Dog thinks the new Buffalo sweater is great….T.P.O!

Good God, the marketing departments of some of these NHL teams really do NOT have a clue.

Panthers sweaters and logo? Horrible. Ducks. Horrible. Coyotes. Horrible. Islanders. Horrible.

I guess not every jersey can look like the Bruins or the Blackhawks!

    • arlingtonrob - Sep 5, 2013 at 6:02 PM

Don’t forget the glory that is the “new” Team USA sweater.

      Someone please make it stop.

Anybody else think that they should just the 90′s sabre head and swap out the colors? Cut. Print. Finished.

    • zetaone - Sep 6, 2013 at 11:29 AM

      What is a “sabre head”?

  4. mattyo99 - Sep 5, 2013 at 3:45 PM

3rd jerseys should be banned completly, it’s just for the NHL too make more $$.. The only extra jersey’s i agree with are winter classic jerseys, with the classic look

    • thailer35 - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Ban all third jerseys? You’re joking, right? Minnesota’s third is easily their best. The Coyotes third is pretty solid. San Jose’s third is better than their new home and away. The ‘Canes black third with the flag is a great jersey.

      • stepanup - Sep 5, 2013 at 7:11 PM

The Canes black third is an awesome jersey. Also a fan of the Rangers 85th anniversary sweater, obviously.

    • ibieiniid - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:23 PM

yes. NHL, please ban teams from wearing three different jerseys so that you can make less money.

did you even read what you wrote? sounds so dumb.

    • arlingtonrob - Sep 5, 2013 at 6:04 PM

Except for the Minnesota Wild who’s 3rd jersey is far superior to the primary…home and road.

      Dump the Bear Head !!!

    • lordfletcher - Sep 5, 2013 at 10:37 PM

Wild’s 3rd and new whites are nice!!!

love the 3rd uni’s… just some teams suck, and that is non-excusable

  5. mrhyperpants - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:01 PM

Wtf! Seriously, some idiot probably being paid a f**k load to come up with that as well.

    Makes you wonder.

  6. pitpenguinsrulez - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:04 PM

Still don’t know if this jersey is worse than the LA Kings “Burger King” jerseys or the 1999 Pittsburgh Pirates red alternate jerseys.

  7. redridershoottheireyeout - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:21 PM

who cares what thy wear as long as they can do better than last year?!

  8. thedavesiknowiknow - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:35 PM

I say this as a Sabres fan who hates the jersey, and everything they’ve tried in the past 10 years, besides the “classic” look. They won’t be able to keep these on the shelves.

Every time they flail in an attempt to keep up with league trends (stupid looking jerseys in this instance) I gain more respect for Detroit and Montreal for keeping it real.

    • ibieiniid - Sep 5, 2013 at 4:47 PM

is that just a guess that they’ll sell a bunch? i don’t get your point as to why you think they’ll sell if you hate them.

      • thedavesiknowiknow - Sep 5, 2013 at 6:20 PM

Pardon my bad writing. Just experience/observation from past bad jerseys. The last 3rd jersey (possibly worse than this one) was enough to necessitate a line just to get into the store at the arena, and a “crisis” of sorts when the team couldn’t fullfil the demand in time for Christmas. Buffalo will pretty much buy anything. Not necessarily a bad thing, I’m just saying regardless of the bad press I’d expect them to sell.

  9. hibackhand - Sep 5, 2013 at 5:33 PM

Hooray for Simpsons references! Now bring back the kurtenblog kittens!

  10. km9000 - Sep 5, 2013 at 6:57 PM

I’m probably crazy, but they don’t seem that bad. There are yellow jerseys in other sports/leagues that look all right (the Preds are a whole ‘nother deal). The Swedes are probably wondering what the fuss is about.

The “Buffalo” looks like a stamped afterthought, though.

  11. rabidbillsfan - Sep 5, 2013 at 7:24 PM

Where was this interview in which he “declined to comment”. Funny, what do you expect him to say? “Yeah, we paid somebody to create it, and I hate it”. Or “I love it, great job” which would incur the wrath of everybody in the world with a “creative mimd”, and would spark more debate on if he is.crazy, a homer or lying.. Really grasping at straws here. I hold you in a much higher regard than the Buffalo media PHT, don’t make me pass this site over as well.

  12. pftbillsfan - Sep 5, 2013 at 8:30 PM

Lol they’re really not that bad. It’s not great but seriously they’re mustard yellow, okay we used to have a hideous goat head with black and red, or there was the slug head, this is ridiculous.

  13. billsin20xx - Sep 5, 2013 at 8:38 PM

Another good reason to fire Regier asap, he must have had some input on this!!!!

  14. jonkchar - Sep 5, 2013 at 8:52 PM

lol man I forgot about that episode

    • thedavesiknowiknow - Sep 5, 2013 at 11:00 PM

That one goes waaay back. Danny DeVito in his prime!

  15. nyrnashty - Sep 5, 2013 at 11:55 PM

The Sabres and Islanders have two of the nicest jerseys in the league, but they want to keep digging into their fans pockets every year.
