No, it’s not a particularly big deal. But yes, it’s been picked up by numerous media outlets, so we’re going to pass it along.

From the Winnipeg Free Press:

Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane has suffered his first hit of the upcoming hockey season — a court order garnishing his wages for refusing to pay a pair of outstanding traffic tickets.

The Manitoba government took the unusual step of filing a Court of Queen’s Bench motion in an attempt to recoup $650.80 in fines and costs from Kane, a budding NHL superstar who signed a six-year, $31.5-million contract earlier this summer.

The Jets say the issue has been dealt with. The two tickets were reportedly for texting while driving and driving without a valid license.

From CBC News, quoting Jets spokesperson Scott Brown:

“The Winnipeg Hockey Club did pay the fines and then Evander worked with us and repaid us,” he said. “It’s not a situation where Evander knowingly didn’t pay the fines or purposely didn’t pay the fines.” Brown said the 22-year-old Kane just “forgot” about the tickets.

“It’s a set of unfortunate circumstances … that could have happen to a lot of people and just happened to happen to Evander Kane, which of course he comes with a spotlight.”

“Forgot” or thought it was beneath him? “Fameitis” is a well know malady that frequently occures in S. California (Brittany, Lindsey, Sean P…)

And as in this “case”, judges can become a part of a therapy team;)

Or was traveling to the Southeast every week for 3-4 months to play a bunch of games in a shorten season.

“comes with a spotlight” is all the more reason why an athlete or a celeb needs to stay on top of their bidness. Seems young Evander is reaping what he has sowed with regard to his reputation and the public’s perception.

I haven’t paid parking tickets before either and I’m sure most people on here haven’t either. I know I’m not famous and I can’t imagine anyone else on here is

speak for yourself, bub. I once met Nick Nolte snorkeling in the Gulf…. I’m basically famous, and I’ve never forgotten to pay a ticket.

Maybe that picture of him holding up that stack of cash like it was a telephone wasn’t just a joke…maybe the kid really just doesn’t know what it’s for…

Button it down, kid. Sucks to see a great hockey player stuck in all this self-caused crapolla. Still…a damn sight better than the trouble I was causing at his age…

Texting while driving – not an indication of good judgement.

Kane’s an idiot, we all know this already.

and what would that make you? Smart? Don’t kid yourself despite all that positive reinforcement you get from self help books.

Kane gets a free pass because he knocked Matt Cooke out cold. That’s what everyone should know. Unfortunately it did not finish Cooke’s career but it stands nonetheless.
