PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Who has more fantasy value, Steven Stamkos or Sidney Crosby? (

Months after his six-year, $24 million contract was bought out, 30-year-old defenseman Tom Gilbert is still an unrestricted free agent. (Edmonton Journal)

Forward Will Acton will be competing for a roster spot with the Edmonton Oilers, but some of the people he has to prove himself to already know him very well. His father, Keith Acton is an associate coach and he previously worked under the Oilers’ new bench boss, Dallas Eakins. (Edmonton Journal)

There’s been some speculation recently that the Colorado Avalanche might trade Paul Stastny for Buffalo’s Ryan Miller. Mark Kiszla thinks Miller is exactly what the Avalanche need, but his colleague has been told that there’s no truth to the rumors. (Denver Post)

As always it depends if Crosby can stay healthy, he’s the best player in the world when he’s on the ice. Last year was a freak injury, let’s just hope it doesn’t happen again this year. The NHL is much better with a healthy Crosby.

Two different players. I still think the best player in the world depends on what you value. I don’t think it is Crosby, completely out played by Bergeron in the ECF. Crosby may be the most skilled player in the world, but better in all 3 zones the everyone else in the conversation hardly. He also does not seem to be mentally tough at times. Now notice I have not called him any names, they are valid points, and I will still get attacked for say anything unflattering about Crosby. Just remember in every sport talent and skill will always play second fiddle to the humble love of the game and the never surrender attitude. I think it is fair to say when faced by adversity in the ECF the latter of the attributes appeared to be missing. Not trolling just saying….

Good observation, Crosby has shown he lacks mental toughness, especially in the playoffs.

Especially the last 2 years, it’s a mind numbing flaw in his game.

you guys know they are talking about fantasy value right? bergeron doesnt get points in fantasy for playing defense and he is ranked 37th in all forwards in fantasy projections. keep it relevant. and most projections show stamkos higher than sid overall #1 pick in fantasy if you want to stay on topic. more SOG and PIMs for stamkos, points should be close as usual with crosby having more assists and stamkos should have more goals.

        Ouch…..did not realize that……

        Thanks for clarifying

doesnt mean that what you are saying isnt true though, just tired of the same ol same ol “is crosby the best in the world” diatribe.

Good to see Mathieu Darche getting some love. He was a hard-working and smart player. We were lucky to have him for a season down in Tampa Bay.
