PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Team USA takes their first step in preparing for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Virginia today with the start of orientation camp. There won’t be any work on the ice (thanks, insurance costs) but there’s bound to be plenty of news from there. We’ll keep you posted. (USA Hockey)

Roberto Luongo is eager to get back to hockey now that he’s said his piece about his ongoing drama in Vancouver. (Canadian Press)

Is it going to be tough for the Oilers’ Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle to make Team Canada’s roster? Just how stiff is the competition? (Edmonton Journal)

Andrew Shaw‘s stitches went for $6,500 on Ebay for charity. That’s… Really something else. (

Surely Jonathan Quick will be America’s starting goalie ?

Blom, what’s up with this – no clip link? Trying to keep us off balance, guessing?

        sorry about that friend :)

That has to be the worst “lip synch” example I’ve ever seen. No mics, and the drummer was not even trying to play anything close to what was on the track.

The Olympics result in some very odd fan loyalty dynamics. I only have two sports jersies, an official Hawks #19, J Toews and the unnoficial Cory Crawford shirt from Cubby Tees.

So I hope they do well, except when they’re playing Team USA? Do D. Keith or B. Seabrook put a big hit on Patrick Kane?

Yea they do put a big hit on Kane. Anyway,I just sit back and take it all in and of course pull for the USA when they play Canada. I always pull for Canada when they play everyone else. The 3-2 loss in 2010, hurt but on the entertainment spectrum, that tournament was about as good as it gets. I want North America to go in and dominate Sochi but that’s just me!
