Coach Q had quite the day with the Cup

Aug 21, 2013, 5:55 PM EDT

Maybe it’s not as while as drinking various alcoholic beverages out of the Stanley Cup (or as amusing and appetizing as chowing down on some pierogies), but Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville still made the most of his Tuesday with the greatest trophy in sports.

For one thing, he put together something of a Hartford Whalers reunion, which including Ron Francis and Kevin Dineen.

Keeper of the Cup Philip Pritchard shared that image on Twitter, and also beat us to the “whale of a photo” pun in the process:

He also stopped by a … post office?

Finally, he also took the Cup aboard a boat on Lake Michigan. The team Web site passes along video of the fun:

(Still via the Blackhawks video.)

One thing that many don’t realize about Coach Q is that by the end of next year, he will very likely be #3 coach in all time regular season and playoff wins, behind Scotty Bowman and Al Arbor. By the end of his current contract he will most likely be #2 in both (probably nobody will ever catch Bowman).

He will also likely place more distance between himself and the next closest active coaches as well, Hitchcock and Ruff (regular season), and babcock and Hitchcock (playoff).

Considering the HOF designations by those near him, I’m also very confident he will end up there as well. No matter what you think about him of the Blackhawks, he’s clearly going to have the #s.
