Brent Seabrook gives his child an interesting middle name

Aug 19, 2013, 5:50 PM EDT

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook‘s first child was born on Friday, as the team notes. Congratulations are in order, but it’s most noteworthy for the baby boy’s name: Carter Seven Seabrook.

Yes, that’s right; his child’s middle name matches Seabrook’s jersey number.

Some might view this as sheer egotism, but here are a few alternate thoughts:

  • The 28-year-old defenseman could just be a big “Seinfeld” fan.
  • Speaking of pop culture references, hopefully this isn’t a highly questionable reference to a notorious David Fincher film.
  • Perhaps Seabrook plans on having seven kids and he’s merely counting them down by middle names?
  • Stranger idea: what if other children are named after his teammates? (Eddie Eighty-eight might end up having a wild streak.)

Anyway, it could always be worse. Seabrook could’ve pulled a North West and called him Sea To Shining Seabrook or something.

Here’s the requisite adorable photo with Seabrook and his little No. 7, via the Blackhawks:

The kid will simply (smartly) slip in the letter T when old enough and go by Carter Steven…

If it was a girl, it would have been “Soda”.

At least it won’t even be that weird in a couple years when Crosby follows suit with the same middle name, as his child will inevitably be named “Eighty Seven Crosby”. Okay, so maybe that joke sounded better in my head. But really, whatever, who really gives a s*** about middle names? Nobody even uses or pays attention to them or anything unless you go by your initials or you’re a sorority girl obsessed with monogramming everything.Carter doesn’t seem to fall into either of those categories.

Homer J. Simpson will now be known as “Homer Jay Simpson!”

Beckham’s daughters middle name is also Seven. Big deal at least the first name is normal. As stated above who uses their middle name anyway. Congrats to Seabrook.

I really don’t mind it as a middle name. It’s a little unorthodox, but so is “Wait-for-it,” and Marvin Wait-for-it Eriksson is still one of the coolest names in television history.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the reasoning behind it was a combo of “because it’s his number” and “he’s a Seinfeld fan.” Someone probably suggested it after watching that episode.
