Report: not yet a done deal to purchase Devils, but ‘headed that way’

Aug 9, 2013, 8:03 PM EST

It appears a deal for the NBA 76ers group to purchase the New Jersey Devils is close but not yet completed.

That’s according to Tom Gulitti, the Devils beat reporter for The Record, who, citing multiple sources, tweeted out Friday evening: “…that deal for 76ers group, headed by Josh Harris, to purchase Devils is not ‘done’, but headed that way.”

Earlier in the day, FOX 29′s Howard Eskin first reported that the 76ers group, led by Harris, had agreed on a purchase price to buy the Devils from current owner Jeff Vanderbeek.

there could be a chance this falls apart. the 76ers ownership group is already getting backlash in philly on twitter and radio. they are very tech savy ownership and they know what is being said on twitter and message boards.

Any pressure in Philly on buying the Devils would mean squat to these guys. Especially if the Deal With The Devils includes Devils Arena Entertainment which is the concert and other Prudential Center events which is a profitable entity.

I can’t stomach the fact that my fellow Philadelphians may contribute to the salaries of Devils players.

    • 950003cups - Aug 9, 2013 at 10:13 PM

They’re not. They barely contribute to their own 76ers salaries. If you’re talking about Josh Harris, then you have no need to be alarmed. He lives in NYC, and was raised in Maryland. He spent 4 years in Wharton. Which means he likely didn’t get out in the local scene too much in Philly. Then went on to Harvard. He’s not one of you.

      Feel better now?

    • DonkeyStick - Aug 9, 2013 at 10:23 PM

How would it feel knowing that your fellow Philadelphians own a team that has won 3 Stanley Cups since yours?

      • flyers22 - Aug 9, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Just fine because we didn’t just lose our best player and we have an extremely bright future and will always be in the city of Philadelphia In front of a sold out crowd unlike the devils who are most likely going to be moved within a few seasons because no one cares about them. BANKRUPT. that is all LETS GO FLYERS

      • 950003cups - Aug 9, 2013 at 10:53 PM

No you didn’t lose your best players. Briere, Carter, and Richardseant nothing to you right? As soon as Giroux hits the big “2-7″ he’s gone. Cause NOBODY CARES to play in Philthy.

BRYZGALOV. That is all. LET’S GO DEVILS!!

      • 950003cups - Aug 9, 2013 at 10:57 PM

Oh, and about that “Sold Out Crowds” you speak of… It was The Flyers in 2008 who were the first team to give away free tickets to a playoff series.

1975….. That was almost 40 years ago. Whatever your team is doing, you might wanna change something.

      • jimw81 - Aug 10, 2013 at 12:24 AM

what happen if eagles owner bought the penguins? every flyers fan would flip out. you don’t buy another team you have a rivalry with. the ownership group should of taken this into consideration knowing they are hurt one of their properties in the process.

      • illustrick - Aug 10, 2013 at 1:43 AM

lol, That is why most of their boxes are sold out already and they had a record # of people buy season tickets again this year. The reason why attendence is so low is because they moved the arena to the ghetto.

  4. 950003cups - Aug 10, 2013 at 12:30 AM

Devils fans don’t really consider Flyers a rival. It’s Rangers we hate. We’re ok with Flyers. It’s the dirtbag people in Phillthy that we hate. Has nothing to do with the Flyers and more to do with a fan base that is mainly full of front runners and prides themselves in acting like complete douchebags. Like vomiting on a 9 year log girl. Or jumping one guy and stomping him when he’s down.

wait a second, people from NJ think folks are trash in Philly?

Fist pumping on MTV would make me bury my head in the sand if I was born any where close to NJ.

      • 950003cups - Aug 10, 2013 at 10:01 AM

So, I see you’re an avid fan of that show. What you saw we’re people from (mostly) Staten Island living by the shore in Toms River NJ. By the way, the south part of NJ is all Philly trash.

You haven’t seen the Philthy scum that is Philadelphia. It’s hard too notice from a flyover state.

Gee, I wish we had enough stupid people in my state to elect a WWF wrestler as our governor. That would be so awesome!

Lordfletcher: people from Minnesota lost their right to talk about any other state after Jessie “The Body” Ventura ran the place, and then you fools backed it up with electing Al Franken to the Senate? Go pick on Montana or something.

      • nj666 - Aug 10, 2013 at 1:26 PM

those jersey shore people are from ny, good try though. Yeah NJ is so horrible thats why most of the flyers live here.

Bigger question becomes did this ownership violated the lease agreement with comcast-spectacor for 76ers because they owned a team with competing interests.

    • 950003cups - Aug 10, 2013 at 1:21 AM

There is no interest in the 76ers. They stink! And nobody goes to watch them. Reminds me of the Nets before they moved. You had games where it seemed there were more people playing than watching.

      BRODEUR: who own da devils
      LOU: ownsssss ownsssss

ELIAS: so did you ask him?
BRODEUR: yes. I say “who own da devils”
      ELIAS: so what’d he say?
      BRODEUR; ownsssss ownsssss

please for the love of pete, don’t reproduce.

      • 950003cups - Aug 10, 2013 at 8:55 AM

All of Philthy is a ghetto. I hate having to go there for work. It’s a giant dump. Full of pure white trash. They should sterilize the whole city by force.

  6. hockeyfan28 - Aug 10, 2013 at 12:14 PM

New Jersey geez your own governor is a Rangers fan judging by the way these morons have run the 76ers hockey will be like 8th in their list of priorities

    • 950003cups - Aug 10, 2013 at 2:16 PM

I don’t care if hockey is 50th on their list. Just write the checks, that’s all.

  7. chrisk61 - Aug 10, 2013 at 1:25 PM

the bigger question for devils fans is what happens to lou lamoriello ?

    • nj666 - Aug 10, 2013 at 1:28 PM

Something tells me they’re going to keep the hall of fame GM around.
