The Vancouver Canucks and restricted free agent defenseman Chris Tanev aren’t talking right now. At least, that’s the update according to Tanev’s agent Ross Gurney, News 1130 Sports reports.

The 23-year-old has played parts of three seasons for the Canucks, with 2013’s 38 games played setting a career-high.

Tanev’s negotiations with the Canucks have been a little different from the standard impasse.

In May, Tanev made some news in attempting to negotiate without an agent. A month later, he made an about-face by hiring Gurney.

Since then, the young blueliner’s reps and Canucks have seemingly been making little progress. That being said, training camp isn’t starting up until September, so there’s still plenty of time for back and forth.

Canucks Army did a nice post not too long about this, essentially stating that Tanev has practically no leverage and in such positions it’s not out of the norm for negotiations to take longer.

As poised as Tanev is, he has no offensive game to speak of and also brings little to no physical play to the table. Essentially, he’s a puck moving defenseman who can make a good first pass and…. well that’s about it.

Throw in his relative inexperience as a pro and I don’t know where he gets off on his contract demands.

“The Vancouver Canucks and restricted free agent defenseman Chris Tanev aren’t talking right now” …

Seriously, isn’t this kind of like the Titanic’s head chef arguing with his lead waiter about the evening’s 1st Class menu? … one hour ‘after’ hitting the iceberg ! To this very day, the 64 million dollar ‘tweeter’ has yet to say even a ‘single’ word confirming his devotion and commitment to the Vancouver Canucks and his many ‘sheep-like’ fans. Truly unbelievable when you think about it and yet for me, this partially explains how an ‘intelligent’ people like the Germans could have been so utterly ‘hood-winked’ by some two bit ‘Austrian’ loser …

    * Titanic weighed in at 46,000 gross tonnes … Luongo has 46 million remaining on his contract *
