Another NHL journeyman is headed for the KHL — center Tim Brent has joined Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod.

Brent played 30 games for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2013, registering just three assists with no goals.

The 29-year-old has played for five different NHL teams — the ‘Canes, Ducks, Penguins, Blackhawks, and Maple Leafs — and amassed 48 points in 207 games.

Brent’s best season came in 2011-12 when he registered 24 points for Carolina.

Got to love the irony of all these North American guys going to play in the Russian League now-a-days. My how times have changed

whats the irony? that they all seem to be borderline NHL/AHL players, retirees, or lazy natives? some of these guys are good hockey players but have a hard time seeing a paycheck in the future past the current year, or in some cases, having a hard time getting one at all. but they can raise their stock a little bit in the KHL so they go for it.

The irony lies in the fact that it’s a “crime” for Russians to come over here to take jobs, whether at junior level or in the pros, and it’s equally scrutinized if they decide to return home. They can’t win either way, yet it’s business as usual when Canadians and Americans go and take jobs in the KHL..

Any team with “torpedo” in their name is good with me.

What else would you want out of a 3rd-4th liner? Depth is huge in the playoffs. He could have been valuable on some Cup-contending teams.
