PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Good news Islanders fans, your ESPN 30 for 30 documentary is due to premiere on October 22. The bad news? It’s about criminal former owner John Spano. It’s all right though, it’s directed by big Isles fan, Entourage star Kevin Connolly (pictured with Bryan Berard). (Islanders Point Blank)

Vancouver re-signed defenseman Yann Sauve to a new deal. Hooray depth! (Canucks)

Is Wayne Gretzky that much closer to joining MLSE? A former Maple Leafs beat guy thinks so. (Howard Berger via Twitter)

A surprising upside to Detroit signing Daniel Alfredsson? Him being a right-handed shot. (Detroit Free Press)

Heads up stat nerds: Check out these zone entry numbers from last season. Know who’s pretty good? Anze Kopitar. (Shutdown Line)

Wow! Pat Kane led 159 zone entries and 120 of them controlled!

If I’m reading this correctly, Parise is in the lower half of the Wild forwards just in terms of raw numbers of zone entries. Considering how many minutes he plays I think that shows just how little Zach contributes with his skating and play between the blue lines.

The Wild’s 1st line does nothing but dump and chase. Parise and Coyle were pretty effective on the boards. The Seto-Cullen-PMB played faster, entry-possession based hockey though.

Parise is always fantastic on the boards. They dump and chase because Parise isn’t a good shifty skater who can do anything through center ice.

Given how closely advanced stat guys seem to be able to tie scoring opportunities to carrying the puck through under control, it states objectively how that lack of Parise’s game is a decided negative.

Connolly is an awesome choice to direct the documentary.

Having grown up right near him, and have actually hung out with him a couple times here on LI (he comes back home during the summer and when he isn’t working,) he really is a huge, smart hockey guy and without a doubt a die-hard Isles fan.

He must have had a blast directing it. I’ll be sure to check it out

I’m very excited for this. I think most of the 30 for 30 are great so to have another one about the NHL and one that is from a time I can remember is even better. Can’t wait. Sad I have to wait until October.

Yeah I’ve yet to watch a 30 for 30 that wasn’t fantastic so the fact that they’re airing one about my favorite team is awesome.

I remember hearing E on Boomer an Carton a couple years back and he was talking about how excited he was to see Nino…. didn’t work out too well but he definitely knows his Isles
