We interrupt Vancouver Canucks day on PHT to bring you a TSN report that the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Paul Ranger to a one-year contract.

Ranger played 51 games (8G, 17A) for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies (the Leafs’ minor-league affiliate) in 2012-13. It was the 28-year-old’s first season of hockey after taking three years off for undisclosed personal reasons. (More on that here.)

Ranger played 270 NHL games for the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2005-2010, producing 18 goals and 74 assists.

Nice story. Glad to hear he has a second chance. Hope he can make it back to the NHL someday.

I think he just did make it back. The guy was a beast in the AHL last year.

Wish I could have seen how this guy played with the Marlies. Anybody know if its one-way? Could be interesting to see where he fits on the Toronto blueline.

    Good to see him back…

He really was a solid player the Lightning

(I’m guessing it was painkillers but then again, it’s just speculation)

That is my guess as well, but like you said: Speculation, here’s hoping he comes out and say it! (providing he’s ready to say what happened)
