Kesler on Tortorella: ‘He’s going to expect more from everybody’

Things are set to be a lot different in Vancouver with John Tortorella coaching the team and forward Ryan Kesler found out first-hand what that’ll be like.

Kesler tells Ben Kuzma of The Province that Tortorella has expectations for the veteran club that they’re going to need to live up to or face Torts’ wrath.

“He’s going to expect more from everybody, and we’re going to need more,” he said. “The way things ended last year, I don’t think anybody looks at themselves as a top dog anymore. We’ve got to find our way and battle every night.”

Good thing for the Canucks is Tortorella seems like the kind of coach that will make sure no one acts like a top dog regardless. Rest assured, “battling every night” won’t be a problem with Torts there.

I’ll tell you right now, Kesler is gonna be looking to get back to Selke form.the rest of the league better watch we’ll see the best of the Canucks as they continue where they left off with the NW division and win the Pacific.

    • sunderlanding - Jul 21, 2013 at 2:01 PM

They ain’t going to win the Pacific. They’ll make the playoffs, but they ain’t winning the division.

    • micasa81 - Jul 21, 2013 at 3:49 PM

Don’t care whether they win the division, the President’s Trophy, or any personal accolades. Have sh*t together come April and play arses off from then on, please. That’s all.

Yo, this ain’t the NW division.
      #1 Kings or Sharks
      #3 Cnucks or Ducks
Don’t care about the rest of the division

Kesler is ready to dive like never before!!!!

    • stakex - Jul 21, 2013 at 10:51 PM

Torts doesn’t seem like a coach who will put up with that. The Rangers might have had some issues, but being a diving team was never one of them.

Canucks will be scary next year, look for kesler to return to top form

This is going to be a really interesting season for the Canucks. Never been a fan of Torts, but I want to see how the Canucks respond to his boring play style, and over the top disciplinary antics/tantrums.

Cro-Magnons were robustly built and powerful. The body was generally heavy and solid with a strong musculature. The forehead was fairly straight rather than sloping like in Neanderthals, and with only slight browridges. The face was short and wide. Like other modern humans, Cro-Magnons had a prominent chin. The brain capacity was about 1,600 cubic centimetres (98 cu in), larger than the average for modern humans. However recent research suggests that the physical dimensions of so-called “Cro-Magnon” are not sufficiently different from modern humans to warrant a separate designation.

Though only a ‘lukewarm’ supporter of the Vancouver Canucks, I’m nonetheless ‘troubled’ by this recent photograph of Kesler … I mean seriously man, is there something wrong with the water we’re drinking here? Regardless, next season now can’t come soon enough, irrespective of whether you’re a supporter or hater. To say it’s going to be ‘gong’ show would be a gross understatement, as virtually every aspect to this team now appears to be going haywire …

    – Kesler is taking on a Cro Magnon Man likeness ?
    – Aqulini’s ‘soon to be’ ex wife is going after the wine collection !
    – Benito Tortorella is the new coach !
    – Luongo is poised to cause a ‘Lehman Brothers’ styled financial collapse of the team !
    – Schneider gets dumped like yesterday’s papers ?
    – David Booth resigns from the NRA ?
    – entire ‘towns’ in Sweden are recently discovered to be inhabited by Sedin clones ?

The bottom line is that despite being a crazy state of affairs here, it’s guaranteed to be entertaining … and you gotta love that eh ? :)

blomfield do you have twitter? I find all of your comments accurate and hilarious

    • blomfeld - Jul 21, 2013 at 10:25 PM

*** somewhere out on the great plain ***

Blomfeld: who is this rider before us who speaks with words of friendship ?

Ten Bears: I’m not sure brother, but he may be one of the sick soldiers from the fort ?

Crazy Dog: well I couldn’t care less who he is … let’s kill the bastard right now !

Blomfeld: no brothers … I believe this man is ‘good’ and so we will talk to him …

Mickboogy – thanks for your kind words and thank God I’m not the only person left here at PHT who hasn’t lost their sense of humor! I’ll have you know friend that PHT is the only ‘electronic’ forum which I allow myself to indulge, as my ‘values’ simply don’t allow for things like Twitter, Texting, Skyping, etc. In fact, I made a pledge to my people once, that the day they see me send a ‘tweet’ is the day they see me wearing a brassiere … it ain’t gonna happen! Take it easy let’s enjoy the coming ‘circus’ here in Vancouver eh ? :)

“may the excellent commenter Mickboogy be blessed with lakes of ‘expensive’ wine and armies of ‘highly’ attractive women! … inshallah’

Torts will have them in the basement within 3 years

    • blomfeld - Jul 21, 2013 at 10:29 PM

I don’t think it’s going to take three years … more likely by Christmas of this year, sad to say :)

  9. shoobiedoobin - Jul 22, 2013 at 10:24 AM

With any luck in the 3 years Torts has before his team annually tunes him out he’ll teach Kesler to stop diving.

The Torts Canucks trainwreck will be must see TV this fall!

  11. acepylut - Jul 23, 2013 at 1:56 PM

No way Vancouver does anything but end up at the bottom of their division this year.

While the talent is there – this team is going to tune out Torts and his abrasive style in about 2 weeks, and then that will be the end of the season for them.
