Flocking back: Penner re-joins Ducks — one year, $2 million

Dustin Penner is going back to where it all began.

Six years after controversially bolting Anaheim, Penner has re-signed with the Ducks on a one-year, $2 million deal.

In 2007, Penner parlayed a 29-goal, Stanley Cup-winning effort with Anaheim into a five-year, $21.25 million offer sheet from Edmonton — which he signed, making him the most recent player (and second in the last 16 years) to change teams via offer sheet.

The move set off a war between then-Ducks GM Brian Burke and then-Oilers GM Kevin Lowe (which almost ended in a barn fight).

Penner was acquired by Los Angeles at the 2011 trade deadline and, despite a good effort (11 points in 20 games) during the ’12 Cup run, was mostly ineffective during his time as a King.

He was made a healthy scratch on a couple of occasions and scored just 11 goals over 117 regular-season games.

The 30-year-old will now be on the other side of the Freeway Faceoff rivalry (again).

Sad to see Pancake Penner go, but he was incredibly unimpressive in LA. His lack of enthusiasm for the game was infectious.

He’s a perfect match for the Duck fan-base.

This guy loves Cali, glad he didn’t end up in SJ. He can stay in the bandwagon franchises. San Jose = best fan base of the warm weather teams .

San Jose doesn’t have warm weather… You guys can be best fan base within a city lacking other professional sports.

        Huh? Whatever…….

I wonder if SJ will ever beat out Phoenix to avoid the distinction of being the last warm weather team to just make a finals appearance.

You mean the fan base that supports the only team in California NOT to win a Stnaley Cup?

With the oakland A’s possibly moving yo San Jose and having the earthquake in San Jose also. With many large sports teams only a short drive away. San Jose best hockey fans in California.

Ps. It gets pretty warm in San Jose also. ;)

The A’s are going nowhere. The Earthquake? WTF is that? Women’s roller-derby doesn’t count as a professional sport guy.

Pretty warm? Ya, I better lather on the sun screen for your mid-July high of 74. The only thing San Jose has to offer is a decent Quiznos in the airport.
