The Vancouver Canucks signed center Benn Ferriero, as well as forward Brandon Defazio in deals that were announced on Friday.

Both players add depth up front to the Canucks organization. Of the two, Ferriero is the only one with NHL experience.

He’s appeared in 96 career NHL games, breaking into the league with the San Jose Sharks in 2009-10.

Over the course of his NHL career, Ferriero has scored 14 goals and has 23 points.

Despite the Canucks current mantra that younger players will have their chances to crack the lineup in the fall, Ferriero at least gives them depth in the middle, and could challenge for a spot among the bottom two center jobs.

He also comes to the Canucks organization having played a very limited time under new head coach John Tortorella with the New York Rangers this past season.

Ferriero appeared in four games for the Rangers.
