The NHL and NHLPA announced that they will jointly donate $100K to benefit Alberta flood relief efforts by the Canadian Red Cross, according to the Canadian Press.

The Calgary Flames’ Saddledome endured heavy damage from the flooding, prompting the team to make a seemingly bold claim that the arena will be ready for the 2013-14 season. League commissioner Gary Bettman wanted to focus on the toll the disaster had on the community, rather than the hockey club, though.

“We’ll worry about the Saddledome as we get into the summer,” Bettman said. “The human toll really deserves the attention first.”

Donations are coming from the NHL foundation and the NHLPA’s Goals & Dreams fund, according to the CP.
