Bouchard on Wild years: ‘It was a great run’

Pierre-Marc Bouchard spent 11 years with the Minnesota Wild and as a free agent this summer found a new home with the New York Islanders. Spending that long with one team makes saying goodbye hard, but he does so with a heart filled with warm memories.

Michael Russo of the Star Tribune hears from the guy called “Butch” and how he’s thankful for his time with the Wild.

“It was a great run,” said Bouchard. “Eleven years with one team, it was a great run. Just getting drafted by that team in the first round and making the playoffs my first year there. It was a fun run to get to the conference final [in 2003]. We won the division [in 2008]. Every time we made the playoffs, it was always a fun time to play in Minnesota in front of our fans…

“Minnesota will always be a special place for me.”

Having good times like that to hang his hat on make moving on difficult. Now he’s off to an Islanders team that’s young and poised to make more noise in the East.

Hopefully he stays healthy and makes a great addition to the Isles. He was fun to watch here in the Cities (NOT Minny :P).

Thanks Butch for all your efforts here in MN. I loved watching you play and make things happen. Your patience with the puck was always something I would marvel at. If we only could have paired you with a pure goal scorer we might have seen your true potential. The good news is you are headed to a team on the rise and have a chance to really blow up. Best of luck with your career and health as you move on. You are welcome back here anytime.

    Classy player.

Had never heard much about him since it’s harder to follow teams in the West but he does have a very impressive highlight reel. Seems like he has great hands and is a solid play-maker. Could be interesting to see him on Tavares’s wing next season. From what I’ve seen, he looks like a immediate upgrade from Brad Boyes.

Also good to hear that he’s a Minnesota fan favorite.

Enjoy Nino Neiddereiter- he’s been kind of a pain in the a$$ but there’s no doubt that he is a talented player and should eventually be a solid top-6 contributor when given the right opportunity

wont be an upgrade on boyes unless he learns to shoot righty – may be a substitute for molson (or bailey) as the line 1 LW. in any case, he’s a nice addition at good value so long as he can play 70 games or so.

Def a nice add for a young isles team.
