Vancouver didn’t wait long to find a way to replace Maxim Lapierre by signing centerman Mike Santorelli away from Winnipeg.

Last season, he suited up for both the Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets and had two goals and two assists combined with both teams. His 10 games with the Jets saw him net just one helper.

Back in 2010-2011, however, he scored 20 goals for the Panthers. Perhaps there’s a bit more to his game than lets on. At the very least, signing a local guy should go over well.

With Lapierre off to St. Louis, the Canucks have a hole to fill on their fourth line. Santorelli has been a depth player in all of his NHL stays and will fill the same kind of role in Vancouver.

He’s definitely not a Lapierre replacement; That was the Brad Richardson signing yesterday.

Santorelli is a depth/AHL signing that’ll replace the outgoing Andrew Ebbett.

He’s small, quick and reasonably skilled but most likely won’t see time with the big club unless there are some serious, long-term injuries down the middle..

Also, don’t get excited about that 20 goal season. That year, he was playing top-line minutes with Weiss and Booth during one of the worst seasons in Florida’s history. He’ll never get numbers like that again.

Maybe this will let Richardson play wing and let Sestito stay the hell off the roster

It’s hard to say before camp, but I think Sestito most likely loses his spot to Kellan Lain.

Lain — Richardson — Weise (assuming he signs)

With any luck Weise and Sestito will not see any minutes.
