Here’s a quick look at some of the miscellaneous signings from Friday:

The line “depth and borderline players need teams to” is funny because a lot of the big signings today were just that, depth players getting big contracts just because their previous contracts ended and GM’s lose their minds today and on trade deadline day.

A lot of fans are going to be pretty upset this winter when they realize that the great new players their team signed are actually third line players with bloated contracts.

That’s 2 years in a row the Devils had the top dawgz in the FA and lost both. I wish Clarkson a great future in his career. If you ever met him you’d say “that’s a good dude”.

I have no doubt about that, seems like a good guy and is a terrific third line sometimes second line player. Unfortunately for him (not his fault at all) the Leafs have signed him to a contract that pays him as a full time top 6 player, which stats wise he just is not. It doesn’t matter what intangibles he brings to the game if he puts up 40 points this year (which would be second in career highs) the Toronto fans will turn on him quickly.

the clarkson los is hardly comparable to last years lose. The devils did fine in keeping Zubrus and Elias where both are better than clarkson. Either way that “top dawg” (my god really?) is going to make more money than he is worth.

Well, he was clearly overpaid. Just glad it happened to him. If the Toronto fans turn on him for point production, or lack thereof, then I believe the new CBA allows teams to eat salary and cap to move a player. Unless I misunderstood the article.
