The ESPY Award for Best Team will be decided by the people.

And the Chicago Blackhawks, the 2013 Stanley Cup winners and record-breakers from the regular season, are among a group of teams from various sports up for the award.

The list includes the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team, San Francisco Giants, Alabama Football, Baltimore Ravens, Miami Heat and Oklahoma Softball.

The Blackhawks not only claimed the championship in dramatic fashion, but they won the Presidents’ Trophy as the league’s top regular season team, with a record of 36-7-5.

They also made history by going 24 straight games without a regulation loss to begin the regular season, which also included a franchise-best 11-game winning streak, as per the Chicago Tribune.

no way any hockey team is winning an award named after ESPN whilst Lebron and the Heat still exist.

    • ibieiniid - Jul 3, 2013 at 8:21 AM

correction: while basketball, football, and Tiger Woods still exist.

You forgot poker, spelling bee and darts as well.

Agreed. Hawks were the most exciting team to watch as well as the SF Giants last year but the kiss asses at the ESPYs will give it to the Heat.

It’s a well known fact that ESPN is still anti-NHL since the first lockout. Ever notice on the SportsCenter opening with the championship trophy hoisting montage that they NEVER show the Stanley Cup? They have no shows covering the NHL at all and they roll out poor Barry Melrose and his mullet just for show. Glad he has more of a presence on the NHL Network. ESPN is also pissed that the NHL is doing so well on NBC and NBC Sports Net.

ESPN can kiss my Espy !! Go Hawks ! Congrats on an incredible Cup win !!

You mean they aren’t calling the awards “The HEATS” yet? ESPN is a joke.

  3. gallyhatch - Jul 3, 2013 at 9:24 AM

    ESPN still exists?

My bet is that Sindy Crosby will win best female athlete. I hope that’s the case because……. she is my fav playa

Is this supposed to be clever? I mean, I don’t find Crosby particularly likable myself, but there has to be some better way to express it than this unfunny, misogynistic garbage.

If there was a category for most f-bombs on broadcast t.v. they’d win for sure.

  6. rpiotr01 - Jul 3, 2013 at 10:28 AM

    Wow an ESPY? Whoop-dee-doo.

  7. pensman29 - Jul 3, 2013 at 10:46 AM

The women’s gymnastics team kindof cleaned house…

  8. florida727 - Jul 3, 2013 at 11:23 AM

Hmm. A worthless, trumped up award named after a television network for the sole purposes of promoting themselves and charging inflated ad revenues while preying on the fans who’ll watch because of their addiction to anything sports-related. Did that pretty much cover it?

  9. blackhawks2010 - Jul 3, 2013 at 11:34 AM

    ESPN and hockey?

  10. cfos00 - Jul 3, 2013 at 12:45 PM

If they do win, can Crawford just give the same speech from the parade?

    • 19to77 - Jul 3, 2013 at 2:54 PM

Can he also do it if they don’t win? I’ll take any excuse honestly.
