‘Pissed beyond belief’: Ribeiro’s wife unhappy as husband gets set to enter free agency

Jul 2, 2013, 11:04 AM EDT

The Washington Capitals are reportedly letting Mike Ribeiro hit the free agent waters, and his wife was not pleased with this development.

Going by the name Tamara W Ribeiro and Twitter handle @Angeltw3, Ribeiro’s wife took to the social media website to voice her displeasure by the fact her husband will become an unrestricted free agent on July 5.

The tweet has since been deleted from her account, however several screen grabs were posted. Below is a screen grab from @NHLexpertpicks.

Ribeiro, 33, spent only one season with the Capitals, posting 49 points in 48 regular season games. It was also the first time since the 2007-08 season that he was over a point-per-game producer. He last did that with the Dallas Stars.

But his current five-year deal of $25 million and an annual cap hit of $5 million per season will not get extended by the Capitals, according to reports.

His wife used the hashtag #pissedbeyondbelief in the tweet, although it was unclear as to what exactly that meant.

Nothing like making $25 million over 5 years.

    • upyourstodd - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:22 AM

I would move to Siberia for one year to make 5 million dollars.

    • ednacrabapple - Jul 2, 2013 at 1:13 PM

Here’s and idea. Take less money and stay in DC. Why not?

    • cofran2004 - Jul 2, 2013 at 2:47 PM

      here’s a few hashtags for you…

      • imleftcoast - Jul 2, 2013 at 2:56 PM

I’m guessing the hashtag is directed at her husband. She must be a real hoot.

    • rsmaggiemae - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:28 PM

I cant believe that in his long career with the money he has been paid that they have not been able to save a huge bundle for the future…
many of these atheletes are over paid to begin with.
How many middle income americans and canadians would be happy to have 1/5 of his salary. and they cant understand how a team would do this…
its economics…. should have thought about this possiblity last year as he should know that when you get older in hockey your talent is not appreciated that much anymore and now with the lower cap many players may not have a job at all and will have to go over seas to play unless they break down and take less pay to to play
Its that simple…. demanding high bucks for your talent this year with the cap is not a guarantee

    • kotteintheslot - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:32 PM

Relevant if you change Kyles mom to Riberios wife

      • ron05342 - Jul 3, 2013 at 3:03 AM

    • ron05342 - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:36 PM

You just knew some moron was going to vote thumbs down on this…hey azzhole, reveal yourself. Don’t be a coward.

      • jpelle82 - Jul 2, 2013 at 4:14 PM

it was tammy, she heard someone wrote an article about her so she had to check it out, couldnt help herself

    • linweb7 - Jul 3, 2013 at 11:36 AM

In a sense, this is too bad. For the first 15 games last year, he was the only player doing anything for the Caps. If it wasn’t for Ribeiro, at the start of the season, there would be no way the Caps would have been in position to make a playoff run. I have no idea what the Caps are thinking…or what happened in their talks with Ribeiro…or if they even had talks. Hopefully, he’ll stay. Or they’ve got a second line center up their sleeve.

    • greenmtnboy31 - Jul 3, 2013 at 3:23 PM

Me thinks she’s looking for a golden shower.

  2. ntvd7 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:12 AM

Caps shouldn’t have let him go – Played like a beast this year

    • missthemexpos - Jul 2, 2013 at 2:24 PM

And of course that had nothing to do with his being a free agent at seasons end.

  3. sknut - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:12 AM

Your husband’s a professional athlete who just made 25 million, I understand the frustration with having to move again but it comes with the territory. In addition this was always a possiblity and you didn’t have to leave where you were living for just one year.

    • barkar942 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:18 AM

Military families are uprooted all of the time, and they don’t earn $25 million.
      Grow up, woman.

    • dropthepuckeh - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:20 AM

Not surprised that a whiner married a whiner….

    • jpelle82 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:24 AM

ughh. i actually went to her twitter after reading this…cant believe i did. she also who follows joel osteen, quotes scripture, and then approves of gay marriage so….yeah…she seems pretty confused as it is. i’m not surprised she doesnt understand how this whole professional athlete wife thing works

      • supercoop8 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:00 PM

        She sounds like a Tammy

      • nj666 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:01 PM

theres nothing wrong with her being an open minded christian.

      • jpelle82 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:19 PM

lol, judging by your screenname you know a lot about that nj666

      • ibieiniid - Jul 2, 2013 at 1:51 PM

  4. pensman29 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:13 AM

  5. kingfooj - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:14 AM

*sigh* please, just put the phone away

  6. upyourstodd - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:15 AM

The real world sends their sympathies.

  7. source7769 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:15 AM

they probably lied and said he wasnt a rental when they traded for him so he moved thinking he was getting extended

    • ballistictrajectory - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:47 AM

Maybe he should try free agency at home. Get a rental for the off-season.

  8. weenerman - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:16 AM

His wife sounds like a real sweetheart.

    • timmeh022 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:37 AM

      ^ this

  9. jcmeyer10 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:18 AM

Cry me a river. When ya’ll are retired at 35, sitting in a beach house with granite counters and custom hardwood floors, will you be #pissedbeyondbelief?

  10. Habib Marwan - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Make yourself useful ….get in the kitchen and fix us some lunch Mrs Rebeiro!!!

  11. burgh916 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:27 AM

25 million sure can buy a nice kitchen.

  12. tmoore4075 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:28 AM

    Sounds like more #danellisproblems.

As people have said I understand being frustrated to have to move again but you get the benefit of being secure financially. You’re not making $50k doing this. And you have to wonder how much of his is your husbands demands on salary affecting this.

  13. bmoreredfury311 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:33 AM

Best of luck Ribs, Mrs.Ribs stfu and take care of our kids. Ribs will land on his feet somewhere. Its the lifestyle you chose #getoverit

    • bmoreredfury311 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:33 AM

      • jpelle82 - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:38 AM

wouldve been a lot funnier if you meant *our* kids

  14. stakex - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:36 AM

    “for absolutely no apparent reason”

Uhh actually there was a reason lady. Your husband is a professional hockey player, and he was traded to another team where he was paid millions of dollars to play a game. Seems like a reason to me you dumb twit.

  15. bezewaxx - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:37 AM

How can you spell a name two different ways in the same article? #proofread

    • whitdog23 - Jul 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM

agreed! just embarrasing for the writer

      • Anoesis - Jul 3, 2013 at 3:53 AM

Don’t go over to PBT, they can’t afford to load a spell-checker on Kurt Helin’s computer.

  16. northstarnic - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:50 AM

I wonder if anyone ever told her that it is common for pro athletes to play for more than one team over the course of their careers. 5,000,000 reasons/year to be grateful and suck it up.

  17. The Hockey Fan - Jul 2, 2013 at 11:56 AM

You’re a trophy wife. Get over yourself.

  18. titansbro - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:03 PM

Screw this broad. I’d move to Antarctica for that kinda money. Sweetheart, you didn’t have to marry a hockey player. And you knew the deal when you did. But if he really loves you he will quit his high paying hockey career & work at enterprise rent a car just do you can stay in dc, at which point you’d leave him for not making enough money anymore.

    • bitlrc - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:49 PM

i’d go with enterprise rent a car because they have an excellent corporate structure and they…they give YOU the tools to be your own boss

      • f2maestro - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:58 PM

        Well Played. Classic movie.

  19. mpops86 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:10 PM

Ribeiro is one player I would never want on my team. Talk about a selfish payday performer. I fully expect him to resume his half-assing ways once the ink dries on his new contract.

  20. cdalton2690 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:19 PM

Well I really hope she is pissed at her husband than, the caps offered him a 3 year deal which he turned down because he wanted a 5 year deal. Either way shut the hell up your a multi millionaire moving to another city if we all only had a problem.

  21. modellforprez - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:28 PM

unclear? really, Well obviously you dont have Kids and know they were in dallas for how long then you come to Warshington for a half a season and then realize to be with your loved one you uproot again so pretty much all that has Mrs.R pissedbeyondbelief

  22. ragingyinzer - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:54 PM

When reached for comment, GM George McPhee replied that “absolutely no apparent reason” is precisely the formula he uses when evaluating ALL his moves.

  23. equator180 - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:55 PM

This sweetie seems to be a real winner. I did check out the link in an above comment and it is a good story. I am wondering what she looks like, barbie with bo0bs or a wrestler, maybe she whips him into shape before games..

  24. aldog83 - Jul 2, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Wonder what it was that she found in Washington that she liked

SO MUCH that caused her to rant about move?

So now she will have to move to a mansion in another NHL

And Riberio is still playing great hockey!

Maybe she is going to miss her Yoga instructor!

  25. aldog83 - Jul 2, 2013 at 2:58 PM

    I Agree with post above.

Maybe he should take a pay cut to stay?

She might have to cut down on the Michael Kors, Gucci, Coach….etc etc!

Im sure if that if Riberio had a chance to get a HUGE raise some where like LA, NY, CHI this DIVA/Attention Monger would be flying the plane herself!!!

And as far as her saying its tough on the kids!!!

They have been in Washington ONE YEAR!!! What kind of long term roots have elementary aged kids established at that point!

    Cmon lady!

I hope she ends up in a small market city with a pay cut! (maybe she will have to survive on 3-4 million a year!!!)

  26. joeyg88 - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:09 PM

I’m glad this made pro hockey talk…

  27. joewilliesshnoz - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:10 PM

I didn’t know that you can tweet while getting a manicure.

  28. ron05342 - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:35 PM

As though his wife is relevant in all of this.

You know what? I am #pissedbeyondbelief that I am driving a six-year-old vehicle. But I realize at this point in time, I can’t do anything about it. Guess the difference between me and spoiled little brat Mrs. Ribiero is that I am realistic about life, whereas she is not.

Hey Mike, how happy with your wife, anyway? Unreal.

  29. jpat2424 - Jul 2, 2013 at 4:40 PM

Who asked for your opinion. Back to the kitchen.

  30. girouxed - Jul 2, 2013 at 6:16 PM

    Quit whining rich girl.
