The top-ranked North American skater, at least according to NHL Central Scouting, was drafted fourth overall today in Newark.

Not many expected Seth Jones to still be available when the Nashville Predators took to the podium to announce their pick, but after Nathan MacKinnon went to the Avs first overall, Florida surprised by selecting center Aleksander Barkov and Tampa Bay took winger Jonathan Drouin third, leaving the big American defenseman available.

For the Preds, it gives them another potential franchise defenseman to go with captain Shea Weber.

Nashville, of course, lost Norris Trophy finalist Ryan Suter to free agency last summer.

“I think [Jones] is the best player in the draft,” said Nashville general manager David Poile prior to the draft. “That is my, our organization’s opinion as to what he is going to become.”

As they say, defense wins championships. Now he has Shea Weber to look up to. I like the pick.

    What a steal! Congrats Nashville

dont worry flyers will give jones an offer sheet in 3-4 years

  4. lordfletcher - Jun 30, 2013 at 3:39 PM

    not happy.

This was the last thing I wanted to see happen as a Wild fan, now that we are in the same div.

    ugh.

Lucky, Jones is the real deal.

      Good news for the Wild

      nino niederreiter for Cal Clutterbuck

      amazing deal for the Wild

      still jealous Nashville gets Jones.

That’s sick for Nashville. Jones has a two way element to his game much like weber. Great to learn from a guy like that. Now they can have two D lines with righty studs at the point. Vicious.

    Ryan who?

    Lol

    • lordfletcher - Jun 30, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Suter, the guy who should have won the Norris

but I do enjoy your humor, cheers :)

This is a perfect situation. There’s no need to rush him along like you might see with the first three teams and he gets to learn from Weber etc.

Weber, Jones, Josi, Klein, Hal Gill, Victor Bartley.

all playing in front of Pekka Rinne. good luck scoring on Nashville.

Do they have anyone to score for them yet?

  9. officialgame - Jun 30, 2013 at 3:44 PM

No way this guy falls to 4. Nashville got an absolute steal.

  10. sharkie29 - Jun 30, 2013 at 3:49 PM

What a steal for Nashville. Preds fans should be excited for this pick!

I love the pick and they are basically building a wall but the team can’t score.

When that article with Poile saying how much he wanted to draft Jones came out I said it couldn’t happen at 4th. Welp. Guess that’s why he’s a GM and I’m not, eh?

  13. prosportswashington - Jun 30, 2013 at 4:52 PM

Thats good, because they are going to need a rock solid D if they are going to win games because they don’t have much scoring talent

  14. lordfletcher - Jun 30, 2013 at 5:01 PM

I am curious to see if Setoguchi gets traded to Nashville now. Clearly Nashville has plenty of D and badly needs scoring. Seto’s offense has falling off a bit but has added a physical game…

    • vshehane - Jul 1, 2013 at 11:04 AM

I would love to see Setoguchi in Nashville.

  15. prov1x - Jun 30, 2013 at 5:20 PM

    He’s dead to us.

  16. hines86for6 - Jun 30, 2013 at 5:28 PM

big lulz at Suter winning the Norris. he’s a sissy that’s afraid to shoot the puck. isn’t physical at all and disappears on big moments.

  17. titansbro - Jun 30, 2013 at 9:31 PM

Your mother will score for them
