One of the longest-tenured players in Wild franchise history is leaving the team.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard — who has played for Minnesota in 2002-03 — will not re-sign with the club and become an unrestricted free agent on July 5, according to agent Allan Walsh.

Bouchard, 29, was Minnesota’s first-round selection (eighth overall) at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, debuted at age 18, and appeared in 565 regular-season and 21 playoff games for the club.

A talented scorer and good set-up man, Bouchard posted three 55-plus point campaigns from 2005-08 and finished 20th in the NHL in assists (50) during the 2007-08 campaign.

The later stages of his career in Minnesota were marred by concussion issues — he missed 149 games from 2009-12 — but he did rebound to appear in 43 contests last season, scoring 20 points, and had two points in five playoff games against Chicago in the opening round.

This season marked the final year of Bouchard’s five-year, $20.4 million deal signed in 2008.

Sorry to see him go, but he never was the same player after the last big concussion.
I felt he still has the fear of getting another concussion and was always looking over his shoulder for the next hit… you could see the fear in his eyes at the games
I hope he does not have a problem is getting picked up by another team due to his concussion issues

This is OK. PMB was once a great asset for the club. Last season there were times when he hit the ice and I wondered what he was doing out there. He looked lost and like he was getting tangled up with his own feet. It was strange… He cleaned up a bit toward the end of the season, but if MN is going to make those two big purchases pay off, they need fresh legs and faces in the line up.

The right move for the Wild. Having said that, Bouchard has been a special player for this club. Really a talented and fun player to watch when he was at his best. Here’s wishing him much success over the duration of his career.

As to be expected and to no surprise. Its never fun losing long time players but I am okay with this and have been for a long time. Did some good things here and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward! He will find a good team :)

It is sad to see him go, and I enjoyed watching him in a wild sweater when healthy. I hope he is able to get back close to his old form. Good Luck PMB!
