Tanguay thinks he ‘can really help’ Avalanche up front

It must feel like a reunion is scheduled in Denver.

The Colorado Avalanche acquired left winger Alex Tanguay and defenceman Cory Sarich in a deal with the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Tanguay, now 33 years of age, spent six seasons with the Avalanche, playing alongside Joe Sakic, currently the executive vice-president of hockey operations, and former goaltender Patrick Roy, now the new head coach.

Tanguay won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Avalanche, along with Sakic and Roy, back in 2001.

“I think I can really help some of the young guys the Avalanche have up front, and maybe who they are going to get in the draft Sunday,” Tanguay told The Denver Post.

“I’m really excited to have the chance to play for (coach) Patrick (Roy) and Joe. Those guys only care about winning, and I really want to win again. I’d really like to do that one more time (winning a Cup).”

In 922 career regular season games, Tanguay has 249 goals and 762 points.
