As the Chicago Blackhawks celebrate their second Stanley Cup victory in four years, they took a moment to write a full-page ad that appeared in the Boston Globe, praising the city and their opponents, the Bruins.

The ad says the following (per CSN New England):

“Hockey is a tough game. As impressed as we were by the strength, talent and competitive spirit of the Boston Bruins on the ice, we were deeply touched by what happened off the ice. Rarely have we experienced the hospitality you afforded us throughout the playoff series between two incredibly gifted teams.

“On behalf of the Chicago Blackhawks organization and the entire Wirtz Corporation, we want to personally express our heartfelt appreciation to your city, the Bruins organization, and especially the citizens of Boston for the remarkable welcome you showed our team and the many Chicagoans who visited.

“From Boston’s political leadership to every member of the Bruins organization, from the players to the people on the streets, you demonstrated respect, good sportsmanship, and a genuine love of the great game of hockey.

“Like the rest of the world, Chicagoans have been reminded in recent days of Boston’s strength. Please know we tip our hat to your city’s big heart and gracious spirit. You lead by example and have set the bar very high for others to follow.”

It was signed by Blackhawks CEO John McDonough and chairman Rocky Wirtz.

Classy move. But it doesn’t seem that most Chicago fans share that same sentiment.

    • Exiled1 - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:57 PM

This Hawk’s fan does. What was that supposed to mean?

    • comeonnowguys - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Internet comments are the last place you should look when measuring a group of people.

      • lovinthatsomanyhateonnd - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:33 PM

other than your comment..well said, best online comment i think ive ever read honestly.

    • hockeykrishna - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:46 PM

This is one of the classiest moves I’ve ever seen, and coming from a Bruins fan. VERY WELL DONE. Hawks are now my second favorite team. This is just confirmation of the great series we saw.

  2. golfsox78 - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:54 PM

Very classy. I think most “true fan” bases are classy. Just because a few morons come onto a blog site and try to get under other fans skin doesn’t mean that they speak for an entire fan base. When the B’s lost to the Caps and that moron kid tweeted out a racial comment that didn’t mean all Bruins fans felt that way. People like to sit in their moms basement, post comments and antagonize other fans just to get their jollies.

    • micklethepickle - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Er… it wasn’t just a “moron kid”, it was literally HUNDREDS of Bruins fans. Granted, there are hundreds of thousands in Boston that root for the Bruins, but to try and make it seem like it was just a few people is very misleading.
http://chirpstory.com/li/6781 <—- there's a link to a site where someone tried to compile all of them… hard to keep up with how fast Boston was tweeting that night, though…

      • hockeyflow33 - Jun 28, 2013 at 4:37 PM

You do know kids people just tweet things to be shocking right?

    • slysipops - Jun 28, 2013 at 8:51 PM

i really believe you totally right on that assumption ! ( about the morons in mom’s basement ) it is like that on other sites also !

  3. dboldave - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:55 PM

Said it before this was released and I’ll say it again. Chicago is a classy organization and it pains me to watch the Bruins lose but the fact that they lost to Chicago makes it a little easier to deal with. It’s still like getting stabbed but it’s a clean cut!

    • laxman1944 - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:18 PM

Amen friend…….Amen…..felt the same we when Flyers lost to Chicago

      Great city…..dam good fan base

  4. coconut127 - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Just another example of class and dignity from the best sports organization in Chicago and the NHL. Champions that act like champions—what a true example for young and old sports fans alike.

  5. dboldave - Jun 28, 2013 at 12:57 PM

And I’d never judge a fan base based on what people write about on forums like this. It’s easy to say whatever you want and get as extreme as you want when you can just hide behind your internet mask of anonymity. Trolls gonna troll!

  6. lostpuppysyndrome - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:01 PM

Start to finish, a fantastic series. Cheers.

  7. golfsox78 - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:18 PM

I posted this on a different article but it is true. Hockey is by far the best sport. Kudos to the Hawks. Both are tough teams that play right. If the B’s lost to Vancouver it would have pissed me off for years. With the Hawks, yeah it stings. But not as much since I respect that team.

    I found the below funny.

    2013 Championship Speech: Toews: “we” 14 times. “I” 0 times. Lebron: “we” 0 times. “I” 18 times.

    • ibieiniid - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:13 PM

whipped this up for you bud.

      • golfsox78 - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:27 PM

        That is awesome!

      • ibieiniid - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:30 PM

think Lebron would like it if i posted it on his facebook?

    • slysipops - Jun 28, 2013 at 8:56 PM

so LEBRON and OBAMA are like …connected ??

  8. johnstone17 - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:20 PM

Classy. Both teams provided us with a memorable series.

  9. dentals1 - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:28 PM

I want to hate the Blackhawks, but they are really making it difficult. Classy move here. Nice to see a series without all the flopping and whining. Makes me realize what a detriment all of that is to the quality of the game.

  10. tfilarski - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:50 PM

Blackhawks are the model franchise of the NHL

    • lovinthatsomanyhateonnd - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:35 PM

lol wouldnt go that far, not with the way they like to hold opponents sticks to get break aways..but, this was extremely classy, and they have my respect for it

  11. jaybaileys - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Really classy move. Hawks fans should be proud! Bruins fans also, their city has had dealt with stuff not many in America have recently and come out stronger!

  12. 2qswing - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:01 PM

    Lads,
This is what separates our game from all others. We beat the crap out of each other for 8 months but at the end of the day there is respect for the game, the players, the league and for the most part, the fans. Enjoy the draft

    • dboldave - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:32 PM

The players are what makes the game so enjoyable to watch. I mean, you have your divas in the league but you can’t even compare the NHL to the NBA, NFL or MLB when it comes to sportsmanship and likeability.

  13. skirkpat12 - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:28 PM

This is why hockey is such a great sport. Respect for opponents and even bitter rivals

  14. atepper001 - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:47 PM

classy but still, every person i have ever met from boston is a loud mouthed egotistical douche.

    • hockeyflow33 - Jun 28, 2013 at 4:38 PM

      So?

  15. bingram20 - Jun 28, 2013 at 2:48 PM

Very classy move. As a Bruins fan I am not upset with who they lost to Chicago is a great team and they play the game with honor. It was how they lost that killed me I was thinking game 7 this goes down as one of the best Stanley Cup Finals of all time but then Dave Bolland ripped it all away. hahaha. Great series 2 great teams. Congrats to the Hawks.

  16. hovioustyler - Jun 28, 2013 at 3:04 PM

Just shows the humility of the Hawks organization. Something that many Bruins fans seem to lack when they were booing the Hawks during the entire trophy ceremony.

    • comeonnowguys - Jun 28, 2013 at 3:54 PM

      That was clearly for Bettman.

    • dboldave - Jun 28, 2013 at 4:24 PM

Trust me, if the fans booed the Hawks, you’d have heard about it here loud and clear. They booed Bettman and deservedly so. Good troll attempt though!

  17. ronthecubsfan - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:17 PM

They were booing Bettman. Haven’t you ever seen a Stanley Cup presentation before? It’s part of the tradition to boo him.

  18. cfos00 - Jun 28, 2013 at 5:21 PM

As a Hawks fan, I would have been disappointed if we would have lost in the Finals, but it wouldn’t have been as bad because it was the Bruins. They were a GREAT opponent, played their butts off, hit hard but clean, didn’t dive or grab, and didn’t rely on refs for a hand out. They played the game the way it should have been played. They were really tough, and their fans seemed great too. I’m extremely happy we won, and proud to have a guy that owns the team that’s thoughtful and respectful enough to do what he did here.

  19. nhstateline - Jun 28, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Classy move. Hope you Hawks fans enjoyed the parade today. Yours was a hard team to hate. They play the game well and properly. As broken hearted as we were on monday night, the folks in my section gave the Hawks a standing ovation when the Cup was handed to them. They earned it. Great team, worthy opponent.

  20. mugsymagpie - Jun 28, 2013 at 8:36 PM

Being a Boston fan, the Blackhawks displayed the utmost class and humility with the ad taken out in the Boston papers. I say congrats on your championship, and if I’m not cheering for the Bruins; I say Go Hawks. You have a new fan. Salud Chicago 😄

wife and i were on vacation last week in TRAVERSE CITY , MICH.( a WINGS town ) . we walk the beach every am, and i knew it was going to be chilly MON.6/17 ,so i thought what the heck i’ll wear my original black BLACKHAWKS jersey. got a lot of good natured flack almost immediately ! one lady said ” you have a lot of nerve wearing that THING up here buster “! we had a good laugh ! another lady B’s fan booed me from her deck. i asked if she was a BRUIN FAN ,and then acted as if to kick sand at her …another good laugh ! different conversations went on with HAWK and NON-HAWKfans all week ,as i wore a lot of BLACKHAWKS tees and so forth! i played a little ball and football with semi pros and rat hockey with several minor leaguers and two HAWKS PLAYERS………. the hockey fans and the hockey players are the best …and the most down to earth people !

  22. arbruins - Jun 28, 2013 at 9:57 PM
