Canucks to interview Rangers assistant Sullivan

Mike Sullivan

It appears the Vancouver-New York coaching swap might not be done just yet.

Shortly after former Rangers coach John Tortorella was introduced as the Canucks’ new bench boss -- replacing Alain Vigneault, the new head coach in New York -- Sportsnet reported that Vancouver had been granted permission to speak to Mike Sullivan, Tortorella’s former assistant in the Big Apple.

Sullivan, 45, worked under Tortorella in both Tampa Bay and New York from 2007-13. Prior to that, he spent two years as the head coach in Boston and one as the bench boss in AHL Providence.

A former center that played over 700 NHL contests, Sullivan was not expected to return to his assistant post with the Rangers under Vigneault.

UPDATE: Canucks GM Mike Gillis confirmed his club received permission to speak with Sullivan.
