Yes, the Pittsburgh Penguins have some tough personnel decisions to make this summer.

But no, they will reportedly not be trading winger James Neal, as some have speculated.

Per Rob Rossi of the Tribune-Review, Penguins general manager Ray Shero has “no intention” of moving Neal, who has five seasons left on a contract with a $5 million cap hit.

Neal, 25, had 21 goals in 40 games in 2013.

I had to click to read this, because this was the first I even heard of this absurd speculation, and I live in Pittsburgh. Turns out it was just some wishful thinking by some joke up in Ottawa. Why would Shero even entertain this? Reasonable Cap hit for the best winger on the team.

Lets just pull these names off the trade rumor list, because its not happening:

    Sydney Crosby
    Evgeni Malkin
    James Neal
    Paul Martin
    Chris Kunitz

Other than those, any other name sounds reasonable for a trade, in my opinion.

    • ucaneverscorenoughgoals - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:30 PM

I’d add Orpik to that list considering he is almost always paired up against the other teams best lines and is one of the only d-men on the team that combine a physical component with good skating and above average hockey sense.

  2. malkinrulez - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:36 AM

whiskytango333 I agree. It is becoming very clear people just throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

  3. jpelle82 - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:36 AM

did this guy Warren do his homework or is he just throwing names around? why would the penguins trade neal after signing him to 6 years last season? he’s been a horse for the penguins and with malkin signed, that duo will be tearing it up for years to come. why on earth would you sign malkin and then take away half of his help? wishful thinking ottawa…

  4. micklethepickle - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:37 AM

They’ve GOT to keep Neal around, because Cooke might not be resigned, and it wouldn’t be the Pittsburgh Penguins without at least ONE guy on the ice delivering cheap shots to the heads of opposing players!

    • miketoasty - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:48 AM

And it wouldn’t be a Penguins article without micklethepickle trolling it!

      • micklethepickle - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:55 AM

Is it really trolling if I’m stating facts? :)

      • miketoasty - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:58 AM

If those facts were true, then no not really. But, hey, keep making stuff up.

      • yougotgirouxed - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:34 PM

It is a fact that he took runs at Couterier and Giroux on the same shift.

      • miketoasty - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:40 PM

Giroux and Zolnierczyk were both suspended for headshots, I guess they are both headshot hunters as well?

      • yougotgirouxed - Jun 21, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Mike, G is obviously not a head hunter. C’mon man. You’re better than that.

And I said was that it is documented fact that Neal cheap shotted Cooter and G on the same shift. Me saying he was mad at the fact the Pens were getting their a$$es handed to them by the Flyers and that is why he made the runs, is speculation. But he did cheap shot 2 of our players that were having great a series.

You dont need to get mad

      • miketoasty - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:02 PM

No reason to get mad, both our seasons are over, but we both have a hell of an offseason ahead of us for both our teams.

You stated facts, so I retorted with facts, you can’t overlook one player on your team for headshotting and blame someone else because they are a rival. Neal threw two headshots in one game, Giroux threw a headshot in another. Either both are head hunters or both were just mad and didn’t control their emotions well, but are in general clean players.

      • jpelle82 - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:05 PM

giroux is as much of a headhunter as neal is by your standard. especially since he was mad and frustrated that he didnt get a call so he took a run at a guy. if you want to condemn neal for being frustrated and taking a run, you should look at your captain and be embarassed because he did the exact same thing. its a documented fact that giroux gave a cheap shot to the head of zubrus so….what would you call him? its a two way street.

      • yougotgirouxed - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:32 PM

C’mon Jpelle. I thought we were cool!

Look I never said Neal was a head hunter. Micklethepickle said something about that. Then Miketoasty basically stated that mickle was just talking smack and that he was “making stuff up”. Then all I did was say that it is a FACT that Neal cheapshotted Cooter and G. That was not made up by Mickle. He got a one game suspension and IN MY OPINION, if he didnt play for Pittsburgh and score 40 goals, he would have gotten more than one game. IN MY OPINION he should have gotten at least 2 games. It looked TO ME like Neal had the same intent as Asham with his cheapshot on Schenn, and Asham got the rest of the series.

All of those things are my opinion. My thinking on why Neal or Asham did anything, or on why you think Giroux did something is all SPECULATION.

G came up on Zubrus and it was not a clean hit. Neal’s hits on G and Cooter were not clean either. But bringing G into the discussion is irrelevant to begin with

    • speedstickmusk - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:49 AM

      idiot…

    • valarmorghuliss - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:14 PM

You’re a massive idiot if you think anyone in the NHL considers Neal a dirty player.
Start watching hockey rather than showing up on blogs and posting completely moronic clap-trap.

      Pens sucks
      Wings rule
      You’re a buffoon

      • ironyisadeadscene - Jun 21, 2013 at 1:28 PM

This guy seems to think he has a history…he’s in the NHL I believe

      • valarmorghuliss - Jun 21, 2013 at 1:46 PM

Mercy me a 1 game suspension = dirty player to idiots like you?
        Not surprised in the least

By your logic Lupul is dirty too right? No TWICE as dirty since he has a 2 game suspension under his belt.
Brayden Schenn, he must be dirty as well right?

These are rhetorical questions that you need not answer btw.

      • valarmorghuliss - Jun 21, 2013 at 1:49 PM

Oh and your vid is a F’n joke, should I say thanks? 1 game is a tap on the wrist, and watching the video just confirms why.

    • laxman1944 - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:55 PM

Sorry Toasty but like Sid/Malki when things don’t go their way they turn into ax weilding cheap shot artists…….

Denying that just makes you look foolish

      • miketoasty - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Because throwing out wild accusations doesn’t do the same for you? Funny, neither Crosby nor Malkin have been suspended after playing 8 years in the league, and Neal was suspended 1 playoff game for losing his cool. Look at the facts before you starting posting.

    • buysamadrink - Jun 21, 2013 at 3:23 PM

I think that’s the pot calling the kettle orange and black.

    • steelernation1 - Jun 22, 2013 at 2:25 PM

Really.how many games a year do you watch the pens play? As many as your team plays them a year? You are a pathetic little troll that has no clue about hockey. I watch every pens game and have yet to see neal make a cheap shot. And another thing little troll.Cook had a great playoffs this year.go back under your bridge till you can come up with something true to say.better yet say nothing at all.

      • micklethepickle - Jun 24, 2013 at 10:45 AM

There’s a video of Neal deliver head shots to 2 guys in the same shift about 2 comments up… guess you must’ve missed that game, eh? So you’ve seen every Pens game except the ones in the postseason? LOL

  5. relggigeht - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:33 PM

    Pens should keep Neal.
Letang should go. He is one on the most overrated players in the NHL. Pens need real defensemen. NOT a hot-shot offense-minded defenseman that makes one bone-headed mistake after the other.

And, Fleury, of course. It makes no sense to hang on this this guy any longer.

  6. mz1394 - Jun 21, 2013 at 12:37 PM

  9. Habib Marwan - Jun 21, 2013 at 4:49 PM

the 1975er fans need to get over the whole neal “headhunting giroux thing.. if that was considered headhunting then the state of the fragility minds of flyers fans are in sad sad shape

  10. bobhpine - Jun 21, 2013 at 10:48 PM

These Fly girls are really sensitive about head hits…right up until the moment when they wish a head shot on Crosby that puts him into a coma…always the sign of civilized people with their priorities straight.
