Blackhawks Seabrook on Toews: ‘He’s got to score goals for us’

Never underestimate the value of a good pep talk once in a while.

According to a story in the Globe and Mail, Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook once again had to show some tough love to his teammate and captain Jonathan Toews prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins.

“To be completely honest, I was sick and tired of hearing everybody talk about everything that Johnny is doing right,” Seabrook told the Globe and Mail.

“I mean, he’s got to score goals for us. … It wasn’t about the little things that he does. It wasn’t about his leadership that he brings. I just thought that maybe he needed to start thinking about scoring goals.”

We’re not sure of any specifics of the conversation, what, if any, blue language was used, or the tone of what was said.

But apparently it got through to Toews, at least for a very important Game 4.

Toews had one goal in the Blackhawks overtime victory Wednesday, which evened the best-of-seven final series at two-games apiece.

It was just the second goal in these playoffs for Toews. He had 23 during the regular season. He also called on his team not to be afraid of the towering Zdeno Chara.

As for the man responsible for the motivational talk, Seabrook backed it up by scoring the overtime winning goal for Chicago.

not to say I disagree with sharp and keith being tagged as alternates, but this man should be wearing a big ‘A’ for us

“us”????? If you play for the Blackhawks….you should be resting, watching tape or doing something other than writing posts on a dumb hockey site.

man you really capitalized on my pronoun use, they just don’t make sharp wit like yours anymore

Can you not make stupid comments that’s like that? Some of us fans have been ticket holders for a long time. Investing our time, hearts, and LOTS of money into supporting our favorite team. If we want to say “we”, we have EVERY right to. We help pay their salaries and support them. So F off….

I’m with you whammy, sometimes I slip, but I’m not a big fan of the “we.”

Wow. Call this Bruins fan impressed. Takes a lot to step up to your own captain and tell the harsh truth. Gotta love a guy like that in your locker room, though. That’s the kind of leader every team rallies around.

And keep the foot up Kane’s butt too… Hossa has been their strongest forward… and as much as I like and respect Hossa… that should NOT be the case!

    Go Bruins!

Seabrook taking charge in more ways than one. Glad someone was able grab him by the balls and get through to him. Saturday will be fun. Go Hawks!

What’s the phrase – “Man Up!”? I remember Seabrook as taking a puck to the mouth in the 2010 cup run, lost several teeth, still played more. There’s a reason Seabs and Keith are well paid.

BTW, 2nd OT winner for #7 in this year’s playoffs.

It was Duncan Keith who took the puck in the mouth in game 4 against San Jose in 2010.

“According to” … Stirring the pot. What, are you 5?

  9. pone27 - Jun 21, 2013 at 7:54 AM

No problem with Seebs making comments like this.

Hawks core has amazing chemistry. Seabrook would not be so public about it if he thought/knew Tazer would lose his leadership/moral. I am pretty sure Tazer agree with him on levels.

Moot topic to try to get a rise out of the fans.
