PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Don Cherry doesn’t think two-time Art Ross Trophy winner Evgeni Malkin is worth the recent eight-year, $76 million extension that the Pittsburgh Penguins gave him. According to Cherry, Malkin is a “a loser.” (WEEI.com)

The KHL will break between Jan. 30 through Feb. 26 for the Olympics, even though the hockey tournament doesn’t start until Feb. 12. That will give Team Russia, minus the NHL players on the team, a sizable stretch of time to practice together before the competition starts. (R-Sport)
